00:00 The one and only Memphis Blake disrespects the one and only Nas.
00:04 Diddy dating rumors. Oh my gosh, shout out to Cassie.
00:07 And of course, the entire world loses Michael K. Williams.
00:11 All this and so much more in your weekly wrap up.
00:14 First things first, we have to acknowledge so much new music.
00:17 We mentioned this last week. Lots of new music.
00:20 Really want to say for the entire month of September,
00:23 although give a big shout out to Kanye and Westside Gunn
00:26 for getting it started right in the final days of August.
00:29 But once again, on a new Music Friday,
00:32 you're going to see a lot of new singles, a lot of music videos, things of that nature.
00:35 However, gotta give a humongous shout out to a couple OG legends of the game.
00:41 The one and only Common dropping his, I believe it's Beautiful Revolution Part 2.
00:45 Got that project. Plus the one and only AZ, Don't Or Die 2.
00:51 Yes, a couple of sequels to prior classics or, you know,
00:55 well-respected albums from a couple of veteran MCs.
00:59 You know AZ's gonna be coming through. Tons of guest features.
01:02 A lot of new school, a lot of old school cats as well.
01:05 Plus, of course, the one and only Common. You know he's gonna deliver.
01:08 Bust the rhymes amongst many others. Remember the life of Michael K. Williams.
01:13 And Kanye says you're fired to a Donda engineer.
01:17 Markel, let everybody know what is happening.
01:19 Prolific actor Michael K. Williams, who was best known for his roles
01:23 in the HBO drama The Wire, Boardwalk Empire, and Lovecraft Country, passed away.
01:29 According to reports, Williams was pronounced dead in New York City in his apartment.
01:33 Reports are saying that an overdose may have been involved to what led him to lose his life.
01:39 The hip hop and rap world are absolutely devastated by this loss.
01:43 Everyone from 50 Cent, Royce Da 5'9", to Fat Joe have all stepped up to remember Williams.
01:49 Busta Rhymes was so affected by this loss that he even pinned an open message to him on Instagram
01:54 to deliver to DMX while they were both in heaven.
01:58 Busta writes, "In this moment, me and you were getting into an intense focus and zone
02:03 about how much we needed to rep at the BET Awards and how Swizz put us together
02:08 to execute this DMX tribute flawlessly and the anxiety was high in this moment.
02:13 We took pictures that we didn't even want to take as we kept making sure
02:16 we remembered everything we were supposed to do so that we had no mistakes in the final minutes
02:21 before we got on that stage that night.
02:23 I still can't believe that after we celebrated such a glorious moment together
02:27 that it will be my last time seeing you, King. Rest easy. We love you, family.
02:31 Tell Dawg we felt how proud we felt of him on that night.
02:36 Dang, I'm tired of this. I'm tired."
02:39 What can we do as a community to prevent this?
02:43 How can Busta raise awareness about different issues black men and others face now?
02:48 Let us know in the comments.
02:50 Chicago rapper Kanye West obviously has no time for lateness over games.
02:58 After a new iCloud hacked, texts have emerged of a downed engineer
03:03 getting the boot after being unable to come to work due to sleeping in late.
03:08 Kanye reportedly texted the engineer early in the morning to get working
03:12 but never even received a response.
03:15 Two hours later, he sent them another text firing them,
03:19 to which the person responded about not waking up on time.
03:22 West then told that person to go find God.
03:26 Here's how the whole text conversation went.
03:28 "Good morning, let's work. You're fired. Go home."
03:33 "I'm really sorry, I have no excuse. I set an alarm for 7.30am.
03:38 For whatever reason, my phone was not alerting me.
03:41 I woke up at 11.08 to missed calls and got dressed as fast as I could.
03:46 Lou was already on his way to get boogs and they just got here.
03:50 I didn't call back right away cause I was in a panic trying to find a ride.
03:55 I know this is unacceptable. I'm sorry."
03:58 "Stop texting. Go find God. Come back after you found God."
04:02 Even rapper T.I. commented on the post on Instagram,
04:06 leaving laughing emojis showing he got a kick out of it too.
04:09 Was Tyler the engineer to go find God a harsh response to being late?
04:13 Was Kanye in the right for firing him or should he have just cut the guy a break?
04:18 Hmm, let us know what you guys think in the comments.
04:21 So this is a topic which is not really brought up a lot.
04:26 I think it's accepted and realized but not really brought up so much, right?
04:31 Disgraced rappers are winning very big right now.
04:34 So you can argue Kanye West's disgrace is the whole MAGA stuff,
04:38 but we're talking more so along the lines of Tory Lanez and the whole Megan Thee Stallion craziness which happened.
04:44 Of course we're talking about DaBaby, The Rolling Loud comments,
04:47 and he's actually found himself in a lot of drama over the past.
04:50 Seems like every month or every other month there's always some type of drama,
04:54 but if you look at the grind both of these guys are on,
04:57 notably of course DaBaby, actually Tory Lanez as well,
05:00 freestyles, new music, new music videos, performances,
05:04 they are working non-stop and even looking at Tekashi 6ix9ine,
05:08 hate him so much but he is doing shows, concerts.
05:12 Whether these guys are hurting on the inside we would never quite know
05:16 because they are just on their non-stop grind.
05:19 A lot of motivation right there.
05:21 Just the grind always pays off, right?
05:23 NBA Youngboy has secured a major, major, major situation over at Motown
05:29 even though he's behind bars.
05:31 Yes, Markel, let everybody know what is happening.
05:33 NBA Youngboy may be behind bars,
05:36 but that is not stopping him from making big moves.
05:39 The Louisiana rapper has just secured a huge partnership
05:43 with the legendary record label.
05:45 The Never Broke Again star has announced a global partnership
05:48 with the one and only Motown Records with his Never Broke Again record label.
05:53 He released a statement and is making big moves with the artists on his current label
05:58 including Kwando Rondo, No Cap, P. Youngin, Meachie Baby, RJ, and Rojay.
06:05 In a statement after the announcement, NBA said,
06:09 "I felt like I had a responsibility to my artists to make sure to find the right partner for my label.
06:14 I'm looking forward to working with Ethiopia, Keno, and Motown Records."
06:19 Ethiopia from Motown also released a statement saying,
06:23 "I'm excited to work with Never Broke Again,
06:25 a homegrown brand that has created an incredibly authentic and incredible movement
06:31 that represents the next generation in Louisiana's legacy of groundbreaking hip hop labels.
06:38 I look forward to working with Youngboy and Montana
06:41 to continue to grow their vision and reach their fans around the world."
06:46 Is this new partnership a W or L for NBA Youngboy?
06:51 How is NBA even able to ink this deal from behind bars?
06:56 Are y'all excited for what's to come from NBA after this?
06:59 Go ahead and let us know in the comments.
07:02 Yes, humongous shout out to the one and only Doja Cat.
07:10 She is of course going to be hosting this weekend's MTV VMAs.
07:14 Tons of performances, normally just getting announced as a last minute performer.
07:19 It's going to be nuts.
07:21 As we've said in past weekly wrap ups,
07:23 award shows are super questionable more than ever.
07:27 Seems like, blame it on TikTok, blame it on people just being happy to do other things
07:31 outside of being stuck inside.
07:33 It seems like the award shows don't get as much attention.
07:37 Maybe after the fact when the performances are on YouTube or all over the place,
07:41 you want to see it.
07:42 But we'll see what happens.
07:44 Also humongous shout out to the one and only BET Hip Hop Awards.
07:47 The nominees have been announced.
07:49 Coilure, Lil Baby, you know the names.
07:51 A lot of dope things.
07:53 Two, that's four, two really big award shows on deck.
07:57 Of course the VMAs this Sunday and of course the BET Hip Hop Awards just weeks away.
08:03 A lot of excitement right there.
08:05 And finally for the biggest topic of this weekly wrap up,
08:09 there's so many other areas I wanted to really touch upon.
08:12 Because I mean, of course there was Made in America last week.
08:14 There's so much stuff to talk about.
08:16 Oh my gosh, how can we completely forget about the Diddy dating rumors, right?
08:20 Alright, we're going to try to squeeze in two big topics in one final portion, right?
08:24 Number one, Diddy, what in the world is wrong with you, man?
08:27 You just continue to find yourself around these beautiful vixen.
08:30 Yes, we remember the Lori Harvey dating rumors.
08:33 Now the latest craziness is of course with Joy Chavez.
08:37 Chavez bow-wows former flame.
08:39 Future's former flame as well.
08:41 Wow, Diddy, pictures have gone viral of you in Italy on a boat.
08:45 Looking very happy with her.
08:47 A little bit extra touchy.
08:49 We will stay tuned. We won't get too gossipy.
08:51 But just keep your eyes peeled for that.
08:53 Then finally, kind of staying on the East Coast type of time frame.
08:56 I'm trying to really make this work, right?
08:58 Like, final piece is Memphis Bleak disrespecting the one and only Nas.
09:02 I know, Memphis Bleak, it's, it's, yeah, do we need to really speak on it?
09:06 Well, when Jay-Z says he is going to always have at least a million dollars
09:10 for Memphis Bleak in his will, regardless,
09:13 you know Memphis Bleak is sort of a big deal one way or the other.
09:16 Sorry, not sure where the camera exactly is, but just bear with me.
09:19 With that being said, Memphis Bleak, a few days ago,
09:22 mentioned or said words to the effect of no disrespect.
09:25 Did he say no disrespect?
09:27 Bottom line is Nas cannot see Jay-Z in a versus battle.
09:30 Of course, by this point, everyone knows what versus is.
09:33 This is where you get two really dope artists kind of in that same range.
09:36 We got Ja Rule and Fat Joe coming up in the coming days.
09:39 And 20 of their best records going head to head.
09:42 Who is the victor? It's all for fun and games.
09:45 But of course, being that it's hip hop, you got to say who won, right?
09:48 We all know Jeezy beat Gucci, things of that nature, right?
09:52 With them, of course, the Locks defeat Dipset.
09:55 Anyway, with that being said, Memphis actually saying Nas could not see Jay-Z.
10:01 Come on, 20 hit songs with, I mean, Illmatic alone,
10:06 just the entire Illmatic and Still Mack together.
10:09 Boom, it's over. But yes, absolutely drew a little bit of criticism.
10:14 Actually, a lot of criticism. People were not feeling it.
10:17 How can you disrespect Nas? What are you talking about?
10:19 And then, of course, people get a little bit personal.
10:21 They're like, yo, why you always on Jay-Z's and all this and that.
10:24 Memphis, if it was anybody else, you would say it was a publicity stunt.
10:28 But look, he's riding with the home team.
10:30 You might be on a losing team. Sorry, New York Giants, you got to win this year.
10:33 But you're always going to ride for your quarterback, right?
10:35 You're always going to ride for, hopefully, your coach and things of that nature.
10:39 So you just got to take it as Memphis Bleak really feeling, you know,
10:43 he did say Big E's probably like that's where Jay-Z is, right?
10:47 But gosh, you know, even who said it? Jay-Z said it, Jay-Z, Big E and Nas.
10:52 Like, come on, even Jay has put Nas on his level to an extent, right?
10:56 So we'll stay tuned. Fingers crossed.
10:59 Hoping we can actually get that versus one day at Nas and Jay-Z,
11:02 unless Memphis Bleak has anything to do with it, right?
11:05 On that note, thank you so much for tuning in to the latest edition of the Weekly Wrap-Up.
11:09 This is Cyrus signing off.
11:12 (upbeat music)
11:14 (upbeat music)
