00:00 When we die, our five senses shut down one by one in this order.
00:07 First, we lose our sense of smell.
00:10 That goes as soon as we stop breathing.
00:13 Next is sight.
00:15 Blood leaves the head.
00:17 Picture goes black.
00:20 Then it's a horse race between touch and taste,
00:24 as the feeling drains out of our limbs and tongue.
00:28 Last to go is our hearing.
00:31 That's why nurses in terminal care,
00:33 even after a patient codes out,
00:35 will tell a family, "Keep talking.
00:38 Grandma can still hear you."
00:41 Look, nobody knows till they know.
00:46 I read a theory somewhere.
00:48 It might be that we humans have a hundred senses,
00:53 but we're only aware of the five.
00:56 Maybe when we pass away, as those five perish,
01:01 the other ones switch on.
01:03 That could be the afterlife,
01:05 enjoying our 95 other senses.
01:10 That's a nice thought.
