00:00 It wasn't anybody's responsibility but mine,
00:03 but I certainly wish that I had been sort of sat down
00:07 and sort of looked at it and said,
00:08 the end result is you're gonna get fired
00:10 because none of us are willing to put up with it anymore.
00:13 - Shannon Doherty recalls getting axed
00:15 from Beverly Hills 90210 in a candid chat
00:18 with co-star Jason Priestley.
00:21 - I definitely went through a lot of growing pains
00:24 on that show and there were really hard moments for me
00:26 towards my last season.
00:28 It was incredibly difficult.
00:31 - Just how personal are you getting in this podcast?
00:33 - It's all about the past, the present, the future,
00:36 what happened on 90210.
00:38 - Yeah, one month after Brenda Walsh herself
00:40 dropped that hint to ET,
00:42 (upbeat music)
00:45 the actress is looking back on her shocking exit
00:48 from the 90s teen drama,
00:50 a move she admits came after she often arrived late
00:53 to the set, inconveniencing the cast and crew.
00:56 - I was in a really horrible marriage
00:59 and there were things transpiring in that marriage
01:02 that made it very hard for me
01:04 to consistently be on time for work.
01:07 And I know that that became a very big problem
01:10 for the rest of you.
01:11 - At the same time,
01:12 Shannon was married to actor Ashley Hamilton.
01:14 They divorced the same year Shannon said goodbye
01:17 to the show after four seasons.
01:19 - It wasn't anybody's responsibility but mine,
01:22 but I certainly wish that I had been sort of set down
01:26 and sort of looked at and said,
01:27 "Listen, the end result is gonna be this.
01:31 The end result is you're gonna get fired."
01:33 And I understand that you have a issue in your personal life
01:37 but that also can't bleed into work.
01:40 You also have to get your (beep) together.
01:42 - It hasn't been a big difference for me.
01:44 I have a different car parked next to me now.
01:46 That's about it.
01:47 - Now, 30 years later,
01:48 Jason's only showing love for his onscreen sister.
01:52 - I wish that I would have known more
01:54 about what was happening in your personal life at the time.
01:58 I could have hopefully managed it
02:00 with more compassion and more caring.
02:05 - Yeah.
02:06 - But we only knew what we knew.
02:09 The hardest thing for me was,
02:11 you know, the show is about Brandon and Brenda.
02:15 And all of a sudden we were gonna lose
02:17 one of the members of the Walsh family.
02:18 How would we find a path to move forward with the show?
02:22 - Another co-star offering compassion.
02:24 - I live on the beach.
02:25 What can I say?
02:26 - Brian Austin Green.
02:28 Shannon says they recently had a heart to heart.
02:31 - What Brian and I were talking about the other day was,
02:33 did I, was I transparent about sort of everything
02:37 that I was facing at the time?
02:39 And the truth is, I probably wasn't.
02:42 - Brian praised Shannon last year
02:44 for sharing her ongoing cancer battle with fans.
02:47 - She just persevered.
02:49 She gets through whatever's going on.
02:51 And even if it's hard, she will share that.
02:55 And I think it benefits people that are around her.
02:59 To see somebody going through a difficult situation
03:02 and still keeping their head up.
03:03 - As Shannon tells it, be it 90210 or her health struggles,
03:07 she's all about honesty these days.
03:10 - You reach a certain age in your life and you just go,
03:12 "Well, everything in the world has been written about me
03:15 "and 90% has been false.
03:18 "So how about I just tell my truth now?"
03:22 And I think that that's where I'm at.
03:24 - You have to look back and learn and grow and evolve.
03:28 And I think for me also doing the podcast right now,
03:32 it seems to be very cathartic.
03:33 It's like the best form of therapy you can have.
