00:00 >> Does it ever become kind of frustrating to be competitive,
00:05 to be in games only to come up short?
00:08 >> Yeah, it definitely does.
00:11 Just knowing that we got the game in our hands, that we're right there, and
00:14 then just coming up short, yeah, it definitely gets frustrating.
00:18 [BLANK_AUDIO]
00:28 >> KP was talking about and he was stressing to you all a time and
00:31 score, just trying to have smarter possessions on offense.
00:36 Just after you go on such a great run like that to cut it close,
00:41 what kind of stopped working there for the offense just in terms of not getting
00:44 the looks that you wanted and
00:45 the prompting KP to kind of say he brought that up as an issue?
00:48 >> I really think it started on a defensive end.
00:50 The biggest thing after the game was offensive rebound and
00:55 second chance points.
00:56 I think the first half they had five second chance points and
01:01 second half they had 16.
01:02 So that was a game right there.
01:04 We lost by 14 and they had 16 second chance points.
01:07 So that was a game right there.
01:08 [BLANK_AUDIO]
01:11 >> You guys are down 18, you cut it to three twice.
01:14 The crowd was alive.
01:15 What was going through your minds at that point?
01:19 >> I think those situations like we just look at the score and
01:23 we just tell each other we need stops.
01:25 Every stop matters and also we're telling each other that they get one shot.
01:33 And making sure that we understand that, understand time and score.
01:36 And understand that if we get this stop right here and
01:39 we secure this rebound, we have a chance to win.
01:41 [BLANK_AUDIO]
01:45 >> Anything else for these guys?
01:46 [BLANK_AUDIO]
01:50 >> There's a stretch between the end of the first half and
01:53 at the start of the second where I do miss straight shots.
01:55 Just wondering, what about the defense there during that stretch,
01:59 did you feel like was the strongest of the night?
02:01 >> I think we're just fighting, playing with a lot of effort,
02:04 playing together on defense, being connected.
02:07 Making them shoot tough shots.
02:09 And like I said, just showing glimpses that we can be a great defensive team if
02:14 we lock in for 40 minutes.
02:16 Do all the little things, like boxing out.
02:19 And not allowing them to get second chance points.
02:22 And we just gotta keep operating on that.
02:24 We got 40 minutes, we can't beat this first.
02:26 >> Can be talked after the game on Saturday and then I'm heading into this one.
02:31 Just needing you guys to talk more.
02:35 Was that something that you thought was, if you took a step forward,
02:37 I mean that direction and today, just getting you guys to be more talkative on
02:40 that end?
02:41 >> Yeah, definitely.
02:41 I think this game was our best game for communication and for rotations.
02:48 So I feel like we made some really big strides in the area.
02:51 >> Brandon, can you talk about your game, obviously going up against one of
02:56 the nation's best in Cal, Phil Faske.
02:58 You dropped a double-double.
02:59 What was that battle like between you guys tonight?
03:01 >> He's a great player.
03:02 I knew I had to have this type of game,
03:08 hopefully for us to have to have these type of games in order for us to win.
03:13 Like I said, he's a great player and stuff.
03:16 And I know what's going on.
03:19 I just wanted to lock in a little bit more for this game, as I do every other game.
03:23 Take up the defense, get aggressive, keep attacking,
03:27 bring a lot of energy on the board and stuff.
03:30 And I feel like I showed that.
03:32 Next time, hopefully, we come up with a W.
03:36 >> Yeah, you guys played NC State tough, Carolina tough, Duke tough.
03:43 But what you're judging ultimately is winning games.
03:46 What do you think it'll take to get through that barrier?
03:48 >> It's playing how we do for 40 straight minutes.
03:52 I think our first half, we'd be digging ourselves a hole.
03:57 And that's been kind of a common theme throughout the year.
04:00 We'll dig ourselves a little hole in the first half, and
04:02 then we'll make a comeback second half.
04:04 And then there'll be a little, maybe five to eight minute stretch where
04:09 we're not completely locked in defensively in the second half.
04:12 And that's where things start to break down.
04:14 And so yeah, we just put together two 20 minute halves where we're competing and
04:19 playing hard on defense and playing together offensively.
04:23 And that's how we'll come up with those wins.
04:25 >> Anything else?
04:28 All right, thank you.
