00:09 When we look at modern man, we have to face the fact
00:15 that modern man suffers from a kind of poverty of the spirit
00:24 which stands in glaring contrast to his scientific and technological abundance.
00:32 We've learned to fly the air like birds. We've learned to swim the seas like fish.
00:38 And yet we haven't learned to walk the earth as brothers and sisters.
00:42 [music]
00:46 Folks, we're in trouble.
00:48 The whole system stinks.
00:50 The whole idea of greed and profit and the exploitation of other people, it stinks.
00:55 Money operates on one value system. It defines value by price.
01:01 [music]
01:03 You see, no one notices what the true function of the system is.
01:07 It is masked by propaganda and myth.
01:10 So far as poverty is concerned, there has never in history been a more effective machine
01:15 for eliminating poverty than the free enterprise system and the free market.
01:19 [laughter]
01:23 Do we have a health care system? No, we don't.
01:26 We have a sickness and disability care system.
01:29 Is curing patients of cancer and disease a sustainable business model?
01:33 Asks analysts at investment bank Goldman Sachs in an April 10th report.
01:38 You see, the dominant functions of a system are often not what they seem.
01:43 People think the market is there to feed and clothe them.
01:46 No, the primary function of this economy is to exploit scarcity and increase consumption.
01:51 Hidden camera footage shows how Amazon, the largest retailer in the world,
01:55 systematically destroys billions of dollars worth of goods every year.
01:59 And it's funny, people talk about green capitalism as if it could ever be a thing.
02:05 [music]
02:08 How to say no. That's the subject under discussion.
02:12 And I suddenly realized looking at that, that that means that every fundamental capacity
02:17 that has enabled our species to survive, we've defined by our economic system as worthless.
02:24 Our ability to care for each other, to come to each other's rescue,
02:28 to stand up for what's right, to oppose what's wrong.
02:31 Actively or is it a subconscious thing as part of capitalism, is to promote racism.
02:36 All of those fundamental capacities that we as a species need in order to survive,
02:42 we've defined by our economic system as worthless.
02:47 Now is there another way? Of course there is.
02:51 The question is, can we overcome the force of this system before it kills us?
02:56 Because that is exactly what it's going to do in the end.
