UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak says it is "not sustainable" to attempt to counter Huthi attacks on shipping in the Red Sea after they have been launched. Speaking in parliament after a second round of joint US-UK strikes on Huthi targets in Yemen, Sunak says the strikes are aiming to "degrade" the Huthis' capacity to launch such attacks.

00:00 Mr Speaker, attempting to counter every Houthi attack after it has been launched is simply not sustainable.
00:06 We have already shot down dozens of missiles and drones targeted at civilian vessels and at the Royal Navy.
00:13 And the Houthis have conducted at least 12 further attacks on shipping since 11 January,
00:20 including just last night, shortly before our strikes were conducted.
00:24 So we acted to further degrade their ability to mount such attacks.
00:29 We are going to use the most effective means at our disposal to cut off the Houthis' financial resources
00:35 where they are used to fund these attacks.
00:38 We are working closely with the United States on this and plan to announce new sanction measures in the coming days.
