01:13 Netflix have just acquired the rights to Monday Night Raw.

01:18 After months of speculation that put Raw's existing network Peacock, AW's home turf

01:23 of Warner Bros Discovery and the outside chance of Amazon Prime, WWE actually decided to just

01:29 Netflix and chill.

01:31 Announced by WWE themselves on their website, the promotion reveals Monday Night Raw will

01:35 move from the USA Network to Netflix from the beginning of 2025.

01:41 This marks a major programming shift, as Raw leaves linear television for the first time

01:46 since its inception 31 years ago.

01:50 And it's not just for the US market.

01:52 In an unprecedented deal, Netflix will have the exclusive rights to Raw practically worldwide,

01:58 with the US, Canada, UK and Latin America among other territories with additional countries

02:04 and regions to be added over time.

02:07 This will include Netflix becoming the home for all WWE shows and specials outside of

02:13 the US, like NXT, SmackDown, Documentaries Series and Premium Live Events.

02:20 In the United States, those will presumably stay on Peacock.

02:23 It's a huge play for Netflix, their first major weekly live broadcast show.

02:28 It's not just a revolutionary step for wrestling, it's a transformative step for how we all

02:32 consume media.

02:34 Variety add that the deal is valued at at least $400 million per year, and is believed

02:39 to run for more than five years.

02:41 This is a significant increase on Raw's current deal with NBCUniversal, which is worth

02:46 approximately $250-$260 million per year.

03:14 That means The Rock will be part of the team that decides the strategic direction of WWE,

03:19 and kind of puts him as Triple H's boss.

03:22 TKO themselves announced the appointment, with Vince McMahon - remember him - saying

03:27 "Very few people on the planet understand the convergence of sports, entertainment,

03:31 media and business like Rock."

03:33 We are proud to have him join the TKO board, to help take our company to new heights.

03:38 And Johnson himself, who revealed not only that he's "very motivated to help continue

03:42 to globally expand our TKO, WWE and UFC businesses as the worldwide leader in sports and entertainment,

03:48 while proudly representing so many…"

03:50 Sorry, it was too much business, I fell asleep.

03:54 But Dwayne has also revealed his new role gives him "full ownership of my name"

03:59 - it's a quote, he doesn't mean he owns Oli Davis - "my name, The Rock".

04:06 His contract will also involve a services and merchandising agreement with TKO.

04:11 This comes following Rock's surprise appearance on the Day One edition of Raw, and further

04:15 fuels speculation he'll finish his story main eventing WrestleMania 40 against his

04:20 tribal cousin Roman Reigns.

04:28 In addition to being a wrestler, actor and impossible body image setter, Rocky is a businessman,

04:33 being the owner of Seven Bucks Productions, the founder of the Terra Manor tequila brand,

04:37 co-founder of the Zoa Energy drink and the owner of the XFL.

05:07 By the following October, he was promoted to Raw's lead play-by-play commentator alongside

05:28 Corey Graves - who both moved across the SmackDown's three-man booth from August 2023, now with

05:34 added Michael Cole.

05:36 PWInsider reported at the time this was to help improve Patrick's announcing, as while

05:41 he was extremely well liked, those backstage believed he needed "some more seasoning".

05:46 Patrick must've become adequately salty by the end of the year, though, because at

05:50 the start of 2024 his Michael Cole stabiliser wheels were taken off.

05:54 But according to PWInsider, that was actually more to see how Patrick "tastes by himself".

06:01 I'm going to stop going along with the seasoning metaphor now.

06:05 It's getting weird.

06:07 Cole being removed from SmackDown commentary was reportedly a sink or swim test for Patrick,

06:12 with WWE officials feeling he needed to really step it up if he hoped to remain in the position.

06:17 He might have only lasted three episodes, as now Aaron Varble, a writer for SEScoops,

06:22 has posted on X SmackDown set for a change.

09:07 And that was time for my review of Monday Night Raw, aka the impressive 1,600th episode

09:13 of Monday Night Raw.

09:14 I think we've had that many WrestleTalk News as well, so it's not that impressive.

09:18 In about five minutes.

09:19 The show opened with Seth Rollins' promo to confirm the reports that he is indeed injured

09:24 and will be out of action for three to four months - which certainly puts him in doubt

09:29 for WrestleMania.

09:30 Out came Gunther to praise Rollins for his hard work and how he's the workhorse champion

09:35 of WWE - a champion people can be proud of.

09:39 Just like Gunther.

09:40 Seth said that Gunther and his goons - his goon-thers? - came out early as while the

09:45 doctors don't think Seth can make it to WrestleMania, Seth is going to do whatever

09:50 it takes to make it to WrestleMania.

09:53 Gunther was pleased about this, and told him that when he wins the Royal Rumble, he will

09:58 be picking Seth.

09:59 Sean Ross Sapp over the weekend on Fightful said that he wouldn't be surprised if Seth

10:03 didn't vacate the title on Raw - if there was a chance he'll be back by Mania.

10:08 He's not booked for a title match to the Rumble this weekend, the card for Elimination

10:12 Chamber isn't set yet, and then it's Mania.

10:15 In a world where Roman defended the belt only a handful of times last year, you can easily

10:19 write around an injured champ who'll only miss a few months of TV.

10:23 You've got more than enough big time champions like Rhea Ripley and Io Skai to build an Elimination

10:28 Chamber round.

10:29 So if Seth can be back for Mania - and I would presume they think he can - not stripping him

10:35 of the belt, makes way more sense than taking it off him only for him to come back a couple

10:40 of months later and fight to win it back.

10:43 But as we all know, the best option and the one that always worked would be an interim

10:46 champion.

10:47 I don't think WWE would play a game like this unless they were sure that Seth Rollins

10:51 will be back by Mania.

10:53 But maybe they are playing that game and it won't work out for them.

10:57 But for now, I do think this is the right move.

11:00 New Day then attacked The Gunthers at ringside which led to a great fight between the two

11:05 teams.

11:06 I won't use the word 'match' here because this wasn't a match.

11:09 This was a fight.

11:10 A fight that got a double countout and saw all four men crash through tables in the production

11:15 area.

11:16 It was wickedly cool.

11:17 And it's a new Dunless era, yes it is.

11:20 It was shot well and I could see everything that was happening.

11:23 New Day later cut a promo wanting the winners of the tag title match between Judgment Day

11:27 and DIY.

11:28 Our first big Royal Rumble return happened on this very show as Keith David narrated

11:34 a video package for Damian Priest vs. Drew McIntyre.

11:37 Judgment Day watched this from their Judgment Den and argued about their current failures.

11:41 Ivan Nile then beat Val Haller who Michael Cole said was, and I quote, "one of the

11:45 most strangest individuals he's ever seen".

11:48 I know that's grammatically wrong because there's a blue squiggly line underneath

11:51 it in my Google Doc.

11:53 The crowd didn't care about this match, but it was good to give Nile a win on TV.

11:57 Nia Jax got watted during her rather stilted promo and Becky Lynch came out to save the

12:01 segment.

12:02 The Miz then came out to make it even better, and all three brawled with Jax standing tall.

12:06 I feel like this might be your final three this weekend, with Michael Bailey getting

12:10 the win.

12:11 Guys, guys, guys, it's the Go Home Show before WrestleMania!

12:14 You know what that means?

12:16 It's all about the numbers!

12:19 And we've got a new, dumb stat for this silly video.

12:23 Only 2.6% of Rumble entrants have won the Royal Rumble.

12:28 F***ing duh.

12:30 The match only has one winner.

12:32 Well apart from that one time obviously.

12:34 Dominik Mysterio beat The Miz when the numbers game got the best of him, and Truth tried

12:38 to give Priest more of his merchandise cut but was told to speak to him later on.

12:41 More on that later on.

12:43 Bronson Reed challenged Jey Uso to a match for next week, and Ivar beat Chad Gable in

12:47 a fantastic match after a distraction from Valhalla.

12:51 Wade Barrett claimed on commentary that it's been a rough few weeks for Alpha Academy facing

12:55 Ivar.

12:56 Mate, Tezauer beat him last week.

12:58 The crowd loved this match, and so did I.

13:00 And then came, easily, the best thing on this show.

13:06 In a sight that didn't seem like a possibility just a few months ago, CM Punk and Cody Rhodes

13:11 came face to face in a WWE ring.

13:15 I don't even think they came face to face in an AEW ring.

13:18 Tiz for Fizz were right, wrestling is a mad, mad world.

13:22 That is what that song is about, right?

13:24 So what did CM Punk want to talk about?

13:26 Well Cody Rhodes is there, so he wants to talk about Dusty Rhodes.

13:30 Punk told a story about how Dusty called him in 2007 to tell him to keep an eye on Cody

13:35 as he'd just been signed with OVW.

13:37 And when the American Dream asks you for a favour, you don't say no.

13:41 So Punk kept an eye on him.

13:43 But this Saturday at the Royal Rumble, he won't be looking out for Cody, he'll be

13:47 looking for him to make sure that Punk is the winner of the Royal Rumble.

13:52 He admitted that, yeah, he was a nepo hire in OVW due to his famous dad, and he's glad

13:57 that he and Punk became friends.

13:59 But in the Royal Rumble, there are no friends.

14:02 Punk responded to this by talking about how Dusty was the son of a plumber, while Cody

14:06 is the son of a famous wrestler.

14:08 Punk on the other hand didn't have a famous father, he had a blue collar electrician father.

14:13 The irony there being that he's more of an American Dream than Cody Rhodes is.

14:19 He then brought up the 2011 Pipe Bomb and how Punk said he was going to do loads of

14:23 things that would change the wrestling industry, but instead he walked out on it.

14:27 Punk didn't pass the torch, so Cody picked it up and did all of the things Punk said

14:32 he was going to do.

14:34 Cody Rhodes is more CM Punk than CM Punk is.

14:38 And then the two started to get very heated, and eventually got nose to nose.

14:43 Kiss him you fool!

14:44 And they both left in opposite directions.

14:47 This was exceptional.

14:50 And phenomenal.

14:51 Brilliant on multiple levels.

14:53 The building on tension, the ramping up of it getting more and more personal.

14:58 All without saying the words "All Elite Wrestling".

15:02 Two masters of their craft, making me very excited for the Royal Rumble this weekend.

15:09 Five stars, no notes.

15:10 Shayna Baszler and Zoey Stark then beat their way in an unfortunate death spot where the

15:14 crowd were very quiet, and Damage Control argued with Tegan Nox and Natalya backstage.

15:19 Jinder Mahal wanted a meeting with Adam Pearce, who wanted a drink.

15:22 And in the main event, one more match to go!

15:24 So Drew McIntyre beat Damian Priest when Truth did what he was told and came back to speak

15:29 with Priest later on about his merch cut.

15:31 This caused a multitude of distractions, including Priest getting a visual pin on McIntyre, and

15:35 Drew hit the Claymore for the win.

15:37 Which wrapped up a very good edition of Monday Night Raw, which was more about its talking

15:41 segments than in-ring work.

15:42 Not that the action was bad - Gable vs. Ivar was great, as was New Day vs. Imperium - but

15:47 the wrestling took a back seat for the most part to the chatting.

15:50 Seth's promo, Bayley and Becky, Cody and Punk, all great stuff.

15:55 And this week's Raw is 4 out of 5.

15:57 And it's Royal Rumble season, and we were challenged to name every single Royal Rumble

16:03 entrant in the most recent edition of Survival Series - with a very challenging twist.
