00:00 New York Giants General Manager Joe Shane said when he was first hired that his objective in
00:05 building a roster was to draft, develop, and retain young talent. And although he didn't
00:10 draft Xavier McKinney, the current regime has been responsible for two of McKinney's seasons
00:16 in the NFL, including the 2023 campaign where he not only stayed on the field for every snap,
00:22 he also posted career highs in several statistical areas. But in listening to McKinney speak about
00:28 himself, particularly down the stretch of 2023, it's clear that he believes he is one of the top
00:34 safeties about to hit the market. As such, he likely expects to be paid accordingly, and if so,
00:41 that might make it difficult for the Giants to retain his services. The good news is that the
00:46 Giants have depth behind him and Dane Belton, who unlike McKinney, was drafted by the current
00:51 general manager. The bad news is that if McKinney does depart, the Giants might be hard pressed to
00:58 find a player that can do everything McKinney can do within the defense at such a high level.
