00:00 President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. led the inauguration of the 125th anniversary of the establishment of the First Republic of the Philippines.
00:10 This is what Kenneth Paciente has to say.
00:12 The current administration will continue the legacy of the First Republic of the Philippines.
00:20 This is what President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. gave as he led the inauguration of the 125th anniversary of the establishment of the First Republic of the Philippines in Malolos, Bulacan.
00:32 President Marcos Jr. also gave the applause to the individuals who are behind the national liberation movement in the present.
00:39 According to the President, our ancestors were the reason for the democracy to thrive in the Philippines.
00:46 The architects of Asia's First Republic chose this church to unfurl before the world our blueprint for a nation
00:55 with a complete plan designed to shelter people under a canopy of rights wide enough to host diverse ideas and strong enough to protect lives, freedom, and property.
01:09 They enshrined democracy's vibrancy and virtues in the constitution as they wrote a bill of rights, an elected legislature, an independent judiciary, which today are hailed as some of civilization's greatest achievements.
01:28 But in this new era, the President recognized that there are still challenges and obstacles.
01:34 He will continue to fight for this without using force.
01:39 That is why the President is urging the government to continue its work through the creation of programs that will benefit the public to address the challenges.
01:49 We have been waging a war against hunger with farms as battlefield because a republic that does not feed its people will be consumed by their anger.
01:59 We have been building better and more hospitals and schools for our democracy can only be healthy and informed if we are free from sickness and ignorance.
02:09 We have been bringing water and energy to every home for freedom cannot bloom when people are parched and their homes remain dark.
02:19 The President also urged the government to work harder to provide higher wages and better work for Filipinos, fair treatment to everyone, and quick implementation of justice.
02:31 The government will also work hard to improve roads so that the public's fear of crime will be eliminated, and above all, the advancement of unity.
02:42 A divided republic can never prosper. When fractured into tribes, cliques, and factions, its attention is divided by the petty, and its energy is distracted away from the grand dreams we have for our nation.
02:57 These cracks were present when the Manolos Republic was born. Nonetheless, these fissures did not prevent our cohesion into a republic.
03:08 But on the contrary, it fueled the imperative that our fragmented island shall rise as a united nation.
03:16 This remains the vision with which we are guiding our nation today.
03:21 Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri and House Speaker Martin Romualdez were also one of the celebrations.
03:28 They also gave importance to the Manolos Republic, or the first free government in Asia.
03:35 Whatever changes in our Constitution, it should be studied and considered deeply.
03:43 And it should not be based on individual motives. Let us all be free here.
03:51 I believe that the preservation of democratic principles is sufficient and a reason for us to work hard.
04:00 The first Philippine Republic was recognized as the first of the Constitutional Republics in Asia.
04:06 And it served as an inspiration for other countries.
04:10 This commemoration is part of the 125th anniversary of the independence of the Philippines.
04:16 Kenneth Paciente, for the nation.
