00:01 Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's
00:02 Madani economy policy was launched last July.
00:06 Less than one year on, economists say
00:08 the economic framework is starting to yield results.
00:11 Economist Inham Razak of UITM Malacca says
00:14 this is evident in the increased flow of
00:15 Foreign Direct Investments, or FDI, into the country.
00:19 According to figures from CEIC data,
00:21 Malaysia's FDI increased by almost
00:23 RM7.4 billion in September 2023,
00:26 surpassing the growth of RM5.13 billion
00:28 observed in the previous year.
00:30 Inham says he believes the Madani framework's
00:32 strong emphasis on long-term growth plans
00:34 and budgetary management has increased investor confidence.
00:38 He says companies can benefit from the framework's
00:40 long-term goals, like research and development,
00:42 as well as infrastructure development.
00:45 Economist Goh Lim Thai of University Malaya says
00:48 clear goals like getting Malaysia into the top
00:50 30 global economies foster a conducive investment environment,
00:53 but he said efforts must be taken to ensure
00:55 Malaysia's economic growth doesn't taper off.
00:58 Meanwhile, economist Ahmed Razman Abdul Latif
01:00 of the Putraj Business School says
01:02 another indicator of the Madani policy's success
01:05 was the country's positive quarterly GDP growth.
01:08 The country's GDP in the third quarter of this year
01:10 rose 3.3 percent, despite slowing down
01:12 in the second quarter at 2.9 percent.
01:15 The first quarter, however, recorded an expansion of 5.6 percent.
01:19 Ahmed says this growth is in part due to the government's ability
01:22 to execute and ensure that existing policies
01:24 meet their objectives.
