00:00 El King's Dolly Parton tribute is getting backlash from fans. The grand
00:05 Ole Opry issues an apology following the singer's January 19th performance at the
00:12 legendary venue in honor of Dolly's 78th birthday. On X, formerly Twitter, the
00:18 Nashville venue writes, "We deeply regret and apologize for the language that was
00:24 used during last night's second Opry performance." In videos shared across
00:30 social media, El can be seen singing Dolly's 2001 hit "Marry Me." During the
00:36 performance, the X's and O's songstress appears to mix up the words to the song,
00:41 telling the crowd, "Don't tell Dolly," adding, "Holy s***, I swear if any of you guys tell
00:48 Dolly." She then continues, "I'm not even gonna f***ing lie. Y'all bought tickets for
00:53 this s***. You ain't getting your money back." Before exclaiming, "I'll tell you one
00:58 thing more. Hi, my name is El King. I'm f***ing hammered." X users were quick to
01:03 respond to the performance, one writing, "How disrespectful, not only to Dolly, but
01:09 to every single person who has walked on that stage. I seriously cannot even
01:14 believe it." Another wrote, "I'm disappointed in the Opry for allowing an
01:18 intoxicated and disrespectful performance by El King in failure of
01:23 honoring the great Dolly Parton." Some fans on X also noted their concern for
01:29 the singer, who opened up in a 2019 interview with ABC about her substance
01:34 abuse battle. "You've obviously gone through a journey in the past three
01:38 years. What have you learned about yourself in this time?" "I've learned that
01:41 I'm a lot stronger than I thought I was. I've learned that I can have boundaries
01:45 and that I can say no to things and to people and that I do have enough respect
01:53 for myself and my body and my time and my spirit." E! News has reached out to El's
02:00 rep for comment, but did not immediately hear back.
