00:00 How do you find settling in as a new student to Harrogate Grammar School coming from another
00:07 school? I find it quite easy, all the teachers were
00:11 really helpful, everyone was really approachable and nice.
00:16 Do you get the right support through your lessons and through your teachers to help
00:20 you be more dependent? Yes, they've given us a study folder and
00:24 from there we go to study lessons. We have lots of resources to revise and look back
00:28 at what we may have missed. How do you find iPads for learning here at
00:31 SIGFORM? I joined the school anew and so I wasn't
00:34 used to using an iPad at all, so when I joined they taught me how to use it, they set everything
00:39 up for me and it's just much better than using pen and paper for everything.
00:43 How do you find the support here at SIGFORM outside of your lessons?
00:47 I find the support really helpful, there's the LRC and all the learning support staff,
00:52 I struggle with dyslexia and I find that really helpful moving here from another school.
00:57 The support is so amazing, they're so approachable, the office is right next to our studies so
01:02 whenever you need any help you can just pop straight in. You can talk to them about anything,
01:07 school, UCAS, uni, apprenticeships, they've got so much knowledge but you can also talk
01:11 to them about personal things. So how do you find the extracurricular opportunities
01:17 here at SIGFORM? Yeah, they're really good, there's loads
01:19 of opportunities like within music, drama, sports, to pick something you like and have
01:24 fun with it. It gives you a breather after school when you've done your homework, when
01:30 you need studies and just want to get off some fun.
01:36 So I take part in the Netball Sports Academy which is built into my timetable which is
01:40 great and we have a coach who comes in to do that from the Toronto Netball so it's quite
01:44 high standard. How do you find the facilities here at school?
01:49 They're great if you do any kind of sport or extracurricular because they've got indoor
01:53 and outdoor facilities. They've also got separate spaces in SIGFORM to main school which I think
01:58 brings a lot of independence and they've got separate study spaces for Year 13 and Year
02:04 12 which really helps when you're trying to do work.
02:08 So what was the application process like when you were coming into SIGFORM?
02:12 So in about February of Year 11 we applied for our subject choices that we wanted to
02:16 do and when you applied you got given required grades you needed to do to do those courses
02:21 and then on results day we found out if you got those grades or not and if you didn't
02:25 you just had to set up a meeting with the teachers the next day to figure out what your
02:28 next steps were going to be.
02:33 How do you find the course options here at SIGFORM? Could you take anything that you
02:37 wanted to?
02:38 Yeah, quite literally there's a great variety of different things so there's for example
02:42 BTECs, there's A levels, there's AS, there's even EPQ which is really beneficial when it
02:48 comes to applying to university and then also there's more practical ones as well if you're
02:53 more of a hands on person.
02:57 How do you find that school supports you through the university application process?
03:01 So throughout Year 12 you do university visits, well for me I found it really inspiring because
03:06 you actually get to see first hand what the universities are like.
03:10 Is SIGFORM what you expected it to be?
03:12 Yeah, I think there's a lot more independence than I was expecting and there's a lot more
03:17 time one on one with your teacher that helps develop your knowledge on the subject.
03:21 Do you find that you got the right support when you were moving into SIGFORM to gain
03:25 that independence?
03:26 Yeah, I mean there's study sessions at lunch and after school and if you want your teachers
03:31 will spend a break for lunch with you to help you go through things if you don't understand.
03:36 Great, thank you very much.
