00:00 Welcome to WatchMojo and in today's video we're taking a look at 10 of the rarest
00:07 Lego sets around.
00:15 Star Wars sets could easily fill half of this list, but we're kicking things off with
00:19 this colossal Death Star model, measuring 25 inches high, 19 inches wide and totalling
00:24 3,500 pieces.
00:26 This set is modelled after the partially constructed Death Star in Episode VI, "Return of the
00:30 Jedi" and as it was only on sale for about two years, from 2005 to 2007, before being
00:36 discontinued, it's quite rare, and has become very sought after by Big Build and Star Wars
00:41 fans alike.
00:42 A brand new Death Star II set will likely cost you somewhere in the region of $2,500
00:46 to $3,000.
00:47 And to think, it's technically not even a complete set, with it being under construction
00:58 still.
00:59 If you're setting up a permanent Lego build cave at home, this is one of those must-have
01:03 centrepieces.
01:04 Unfortunately, you're going to struggle to get your hands on it, and if you do find
01:07 one, you'll have to cough up around $4,000 for the privilege.
01:12 This 1990s monorail set belongs to the Town Airport series, and it is seriously extensive.
01:17 There's two battery-powered cars that loop the track, two ground-level stations, nine
01:21 minifigures and a whole host of intricate detailing, like lockboxes, street lamps, a
01:25 phone booth and even a hamburger stand.
01:28 The construction of this set was ultimately outsourced to a company that went bust, and
01:32 the tools for making the set were then lost.
01:34 As you can see here, Lego collector and speed builder Austrian Brickfan was lucky enough
01:38 to get his hands on one and build it.
01:53 This is the first of the exclusive promotional style sets on this list, and it's a doozy.
01:58 This humble slice was part of a New York Comic Con promotion in 2012 for Teenage Mutant Ninja
02:03 Turtles.
02:04 It features pepperoni, its own pizza box and totals just over 50 parts.
02:09 It may only be a small set, but it is super rare.
02:12 In fact, we only have a rough estimate on value because it really is that rare, and
02:16 that's around $4,000.
02:17 Imagine what a full Lego pizza would cost.
02:19 It's a little unconventional, but it's a good example of how the price of a rare,
02:23 grab-it-before-it-goes Lego set can skyrocket in price.
02:28 The thing you must know about connectable, modular buildings from Lego is that one set
02:33 can completely tie your entire collection together.
02:36 This 2007 Creator Expert series, Cafe Corner Build, is one of those sets.
02:40 This corner build has just over 2,000 pieces, and features a cafe on the bottom floor and
02:45 hotel accommodation above, and these different floors can be lifted up to help you peer in
02:49 and place your minifigures.
02:57 The detail in this set is superb, and it's simply beautiful to look at.
03:01 As it was discontinued after just two years, it is really rare and expensive, with prices
03:05 ranging anywhere from $1,000 to $2,500.
03:11 Considering that only 53 copies of this set were ever made, and that they were given as
03:15 gifts to attendees of a 2012 Lego HQ tour, the chances of getting your hands on it are
03:20 slim to absolute zero.
03:22 What we love about this 795-piece set is that it pays homage to the first plane bought by
03:27 the Lego Group in 1962, which adds a tasty bit of history to the scarce build.
03:32 Price-wise, you're looking at around $5,000.
03:34 The set itself is pretty cool, complete with a watchtower, minifigs, some neat accessories,
03:39 and of course, the Piper airplane.
04:02 We've got another awesome speed build by Austrian brick fan next, and this set gives
04:05 us serious Disneyland vibes.
04:07 And it's probably one of the most iconic builds of the Creator Experts series.
04:11 The Grand Carousel measures a fairly whopping 15 inches square, features over 3,000 pieces
04:16 and nine minifigures.
04:18 The best part, however, is that it can spin, play music and bob up and down just like a
04:22 real merry-go-round, thanks to featuring its own motor and sound brick.
04:30 This 2009 set had an extremely limited production run of about a year, and can be found on eBay
04:36 for around $2,500 to $3,000.
04:42 At its time of release in the year 2000, this Lego Lady Liberty was the largest Lego set
04:47 ever, standing around three feet tall and being made up of 3,000 pieces.
04:51 The detail and likeness are exquisite, and while tons of landmark-style sets are readily
04:56 available off the shelf nowadays, that wasn't really the case back in 2000, so this was
05:00 pretty special when it hit stores.
05:02 Unfortunately, it was only on shelves for about two years, making it rare and expensive.
05:07 And we're jealous that YouTuber BrickSar managed to get his hands on this and make
05:10 it himself.
05:17 You can expect to pay anywhere from $4,500 to $5,000 for one of these, or I guess you
05:22 could always just get the mini version for about $100.
05:28 One of the big reasons this 2007 set sits near the top of our list is because of its
05:32 sheer size.
05:33 Sure, it's a rare set, only being sold for two years and demanding an eBay bidding wall
05:37 price of anywhere between $3,000 to $7,000, but its real allure is its immense detail
05:43 and behemoth size.
05:44 David from the Solid Brick Studios YouTube channel can be seen checking out the amazing
05:49 interior and exterior detailing here, and for Star Wars fans, like myself, it's hard
05:54 not to drool over it.
06:03 When it originally went on sale, it was the most expensive and largest LEGO set ever,
06:07 with just over 5,000 pieces.
06:10 There have been other LEGO Millennium Falcon sets released since this one, but this is
06:14 the Holy Grail.
06:15 This ship's interior and exterior detailing, as well as its killer Obi-Wan, Han, Leia,
06:19 Luke and Chewie minifigures, make it almost impossible to beat on the coolness scale.
06:26 For those who didn't know, Ole Kirk Christensen is the OG, and the founder of LEGO.
06:31 So it seems fitting that a model of his house should go for megabucks, right?
06:35 This was another LEGO Inside Tour set gifted to attendees of a 2009 tour, and it was limited
06:41 to just 32 copies.
06:43 The build is a stellar representation of Ole's home in Billum, and for die-hard LEGO fans,
06:48 would no doubt be ranked as one of the greatest sets of all time.
06:51 We'd expect you'd pay somewhere close to $10,000, if you could ever find one.
06:56 And if you've instantly fallen in love with this set, and absolutely must have one for
06:59 yourself, then you'll be glad to know it was re-released in 2012, under the reference
07:03 4000007.
07:25 Not only is this one of the rarest LEGO sets ever, but it's arguably the most unique.
07:29 It's a 795-piece LEGO replica of a brick moulding machine from the LEGO factory, and
07:35 only 68 of them were ever produced, given to those who attended the LEGO Inside Tour
07:40 in May 2011.
07:42 Not to be confused with the 2021 brick moulding machine set, reference 40502, this gifted
07:48 moulding machine set is almost impossible to find, with one example selling for around
07:52 $10,000 on eBay.
07:54 Rarity aside, it is a cool meta-style set that gives an insight into the LEGO production
07:59 process, and is a uniquely detailed build that would no doubt be an absolute pleasure
08:04 to complete.
08:05 So, there you have it, that's our list.
