00:00 What's up guys? I'm Playmaker Nyree and this is Beyond the Buzzer.
00:03 I'm here to show you what these athlete's lives look like when the clock hits zero.
00:07 3, 2, 1.
00:09 [knocking]
00:11 [music]
00:13 Hi! What's up?
00:15 [music]
00:17 [music]
00:19 [music]
00:21 [music]
00:23 Thanks for letting me hang out with you today.
00:25 Most definitely.
00:27 I'm excited to see what a D1 athlete's life looks like behind the scenes.
00:33 This is a six-body hock here.
00:35 This is like Florida.
00:37 Definitely.
00:39 It's a nice little area.
00:41 Palm trees everywhere.
00:43 I know.
00:45 Alright, so you're a Florida boy anyway. You're from Tampa.
00:49 Tampa, Florida, yes.
00:51 Is this any different down here or do you feel like you're still at home?
00:53 Honestly, I feel like
00:55 I feel like I'm at home still.
00:57 Down south, Florida weather.
00:59 It's hot. Great weather.
01:01 I'm just out here.
01:03 Alright, Chaz, what's the first thing on the list today?
01:05 What are we doing?
01:07 We're going head to school.
01:09 Head to FAU?
01:11 See some facilities and everything?
01:13 Alright, I'm ready. Let's go. Let's get it.
01:15 Alright, while we're driving to the facilities right now,
01:19 I gotta know, top five robbers.
01:21 Like, your playlist, your pregame playlist.
01:23 Who's on there?
01:25 So, we gotta go
01:27 Lil Wayne first.
01:29 Okay, number one.
01:31 That's the dude right there.
01:33 I go with Rick Ross.
01:35 I'm not gonna go so over it.
01:37 I was younger, so.
01:39 I go Rick Ross.
01:41 Lil Wayne, Rick Ross.
01:43 You gotta put J. Cole and Kendrick on there too.
01:45 So I'll put those both at three.
01:47 Oh, they're both at number three?
01:49 Yeah, because that's like, I'm not gonna go over it.
01:51 They're both at number three?
01:53 Yeah, because that's like, that's a part of our generation right now.
01:55 So, J. Cole, Kendrick.
01:57 Um,
01:59 Oh, you gotta put Boosie on there.
02:01 Alright, well this is literally the most Florida thing you're gonna see.
02:03 To the viewers.
02:05 Like, literally lined up palm trees.
02:07 Beautiful football stadium.
02:09 Yeah, start out here.
02:11 This is pretty good.
02:13 This is a locker room right here.
02:15 A locker room?
02:17 This is definitely a locker room.
02:19 Let me see your locker.
02:21 Alright, I got a question for you.
02:23 So, coming from a program with three national titles,
02:27 and then coming here, what was like the biggest difference,
02:29 the biggest change you had to make in your game?
02:31 I mean, honestly, in my game and everything,
02:33 honestly, just saying,
02:35 coming from a program that has everything,
02:37 I mean, I was spoiled, I was honored.
02:39 When I came here,
02:41 knowing that the school didn't have that many resources,
02:43 I had to humble myself a little bit more.
02:45 So, coming to a program like this,
02:47 humbling yourself,
02:49 and just knowing that like,
02:51 they got the things here, but you gotta work around everything.
02:53 They don't have the same resources that
02:55 other schools have, but you gotta work with what you got
02:57 to get what you wanna get.
02:59 So, you kind of like hit the transfer portal
03:01 before everyone was hopping into the transfer portal
03:03 when like NIL was a really big thing.
03:05 Right.
03:07 What are your thoughts as a college athlete, like on NIL,
03:09 like how has it changed your life,
03:11 and like, what do you think it's gonna be in the future?
03:13 I mean,
03:15 it's changed my life.
03:17 I mean, I got on deals,
03:19 us able to make money is great.
03:21 I mean, I feel like
03:23 college football, they make
03:25 billions off of athletes every year,
03:27 and we're not getting paid, we're not even seeing that money, so
03:29 why not? Let us get paid.
03:31 I mean, now they're trying to put
03:33 barriers on you, but that's our rights.
03:35 Don't put barriers on something that's us.
03:37 We should be able to get
03:39 paid just because.
03:41 And I feel like for the future of NIL,
03:43 I mean, shoot, they just did what
03:45 Marvin Harrison, instead of him
03:47 going to the league, they're gonna pay up $20 million.
03:49 NIL.
03:51 Yeah, people are gonna start
03:53 staying in the college more,
03:55 if that continues to happen like that.
03:57 And do you think that's like a good thing?
03:59 They work for it. I mean, you're getting paid
04:01 $20 million, and that's probably gonna be your
04:03 rookie contract. Shoot,
04:05 I'll do it. Just stay in
04:07 college for one more year, and get paid
04:09 $20 million? Yeah, I mean,
04:11 and I don't got really paid no taxes. I got paid taxes
04:13 on it, but it's not the same tax
04:15 as the NFL contract, so.
04:17 Alright, cool. Where are we heading to next?
04:19 I like the locker room, though.
04:21 Locker room, cool. We're going to head to the other facilities
04:23 on campus. Alright, bet.
04:25 Okay, now that your
04:27 FAU career came
04:29 to an end, right? Right. What is your
04:31 favorite memory here, looking back at your
04:33 three years?
04:35 Favorite memory?
04:37 I would say this year, when we
04:39 went down to USF, we won in the big.
04:41 We went at home 56-14,
04:43 and we came back, we
04:45 had the state of Florida flag,
04:47 and I got to plant the flag right in the middle of the
04:49 field at the 50-yard line. Oh, that's awesome.
04:51 Is that like a little rivalry?
04:53 I suppose it might be now.
04:55 Yeah? Yeah. You guys just started something big
04:57 this year. Started something big, but yeah, it's a
04:59 robbery, so we put the flag right there
05:01 in the middle of the field, took a picture with it,
05:03 hashtag won in the big.
05:05 Ooh, I love that.
05:07 That's what it is. How about in this stadium?
05:09 Do you have any memories here that you like
05:11 stick out to you?
05:13 Us beating UAB
05:17 last year, I can't
05:19 remember the score off the top of my head.
05:21 I know we beat them by a touchdown, but
05:23 that was our first time beating them in a long time.
05:25 So, that's just
05:27 working that whole week and getting that
05:29 camaraderie together and that brotherhood
05:31 and just forming that relationship.
05:33 Right. And come out here and
05:35 executing the plan that we practiced all week.
05:37 Got it done.
05:39 What is the biggest thing you're going to miss
05:41 about FAU football?
05:43 The players, the brotherhood,
05:45 teammates, everything like that. Coaches, too.
05:47 Influential coaches.
05:49 I've had, honestly,
05:51 not just here, FSU,
05:53 too, honestly, just all my coaches.
05:55 They've been
05:57 the biggest part of my life.
05:59 Shaping me, molding me into who I am today, so
06:01 yeah. I love that.
06:03 Well, thanks for letting us come to the field.
06:05 Most definitely. It's nice.
06:07 Alright, this is the barber shop.
06:09 This is where you're always
06:11 coming? What's up?
06:13 How are you? So, you're
06:15 always the one giving him the cuts. Yeah,
06:17 like too many cuts. Like, probably three times a week is enough for it.
06:19 Why are you cutting your hair that much?
06:21 He likes it.
06:23 I like it, too, though.
06:25 Chaz is my guy.
06:27 Chaz is the guy.
06:29 If you could explain Chaz in three
06:31 words, what would they be?
06:33 Big. Whoa.
06:35 Whoa.
06:37 That's two words. Good heart.
06:39 That's two words. See, we can count that as one.
06:41 Good heart. That's a good one.
06:43 Yeah. And...
06:45 talent.
06:47 That's so gal.
06:49 That's so good.
06:51 Thank you.
06:53 Thanks a lot, you guys. Not at all. Right on time.
06:55 Right on time. What's up, brother? How you doing, man?
06:57 What's going on? We're about to pop out. He said that
06:59 he comes here all the time to get some
07:01 of our products. Exactly. So, this is the house.
07:03 This is the home. This is a lab
07:05 right here. This is a real deal. So, remember
07:07 when I talked about not having the resources
07:09 on campus? Yeah. This is the
07:11 extra resources I needed. Right. Being on
07:13 this, like, journey with him and his body
07:15 for this past year, what are your hopes
07:17 and goals for him in the future?
07:19 Him getting to where he wants to go, you
07:21 know? Most important, because that's
07:23 what we're putting in the hard work for. It's like,
07:25 hey, whatever that next level.
07:27 And adapting to those
07:29 situations in that manner
07:31 as well. So, if we...
07:33 Hey, Carlo, coach said I need
07:35 to lose 10 pounds. Alright, let's do it.
07:37 Hey, coach said I need to... This one.
07:39 I think I need to increase my mass,
07:41 my body mass entirely. Alright, let's
07:43 do it. Or I just... Whatever
07:45 the goal is, making sure
07:47 we're doing the things optimally,
07:49 strategically, and the most efficient
07:51 way that we can. So, yeah. I love that.
07:53 Well, big swimming is crass. Of course.
07:55 Of course. This place is awesome.
07:57 It's like his second home here. I know, he was saying.
07:59 This place is awesome.
08:01 For real.
08:03 We're going to have some fresh chicken here.
08:05 Woo!
08:07 You're really showing them your
08:09 pride and life. Really? He's doing the life.
08:11 Yep, that's the life.
08:13 You brought me some, too. Nice guy.
08:15 Chicken and waffles.
08:17 So tired.
08:19 You guys are newbies here, too.
08:21 Yeah. Alright. Follow his lead.
08:23 He knows what he's doing.
08:25 This is the original menu right here. This is what the prices used to be.
08:27 One dollar for a fried chicken dinner?
08:31 It's crazy.
08:33 Oh, yeah.
08:35 Oh, that looks good.
08:37 Chicken and waffles.
08:39 Woo!
08:41 Hot.
08:45 Yeah, really. It just came off.
08:47 It's hot.
08:49 [music]
08:51 Yeah.
08:57 That way.
08:59 10 out of 10.
09:01 For sure.
09:03 Alright, so the food was good. I'll give it to you.
09:05 Definitely.
09:07 I want you to tell me what your plan is now.
09:09 After a college ball, what's next for you?
09:11 I always had
09:13 aspirations of going to the NFL.
09:15 Me talking to my parents
09:17 and everything.
09:19 All my dad
09:21 wanted me to do was be better than him
09:23 anyways as far as career path.
09:25 For him, me getting
09:27 my college degree.
09:29 So I got my degree.
09:31 A degree in economics
09:33 and public administration.
09:35 So two in one.
09:37 Now it's NFL.
09:39 That starts with training
09:41 from January
09:43 to March.
09:45 And then we have Pro Day in March.
09:47 March 26th
09:49 is what my coach told me.
09:51 Then it's just working out even more
09:53 until Pro Day. Getting some feedback
09:55 from people and see where I end up at.
09:57 Alright, well it was nice to live a day
09:59 as a D1 athlete.
10:01 D1 football player.
10:03 Thanks for letting me hang out with you all day.
10:05 Good luck with everything you got going on.
10:07 I'll be watching out for you.
10:09 Seeing where you end up.
10:11 Thanks for letting me hang out with you.
10:13 Bye.
10:15 Bye.
