00:00 Good news for devotees and visitors to Batu Caves.
00:06 They may no longer have to climb the 272 steps to reach the Sri Subramania Temple located
00:12 within a cave from the base of the temple grounds.
00:16 This is because the Temple Committee is planning on building an escalator this year, particularly
00:21 to help the disabled and elderly reach the temple.
00:25 The Temple Committee's Chairman, R. Nadaraja, said he is hopeful that the government will
00:30 help the initiative by allocating some funds.
00:33 He said the temple will also start building a 35 million ringgit multipurpose hall there
00:38 after Taipusam, which falls on January 25.
00:42 Separately, Human Resources Minister Stephen Sim said 200 volunteers will be dispatched
00:48 to Batu Caves to help manage logistical issues during Taipusam.
00:53 Officers from the social security organization will also set up a stall to help eligible
00:58 devotees and visitors register for its Housewife Social Security Scheme.
