New York Giants UFA Primer - Jihad Ward
Transcript
00:00 Two years ago, the New York Giants added outside linebacker Jihad Ward, a player who came into
00:12 his own as a one-time member of defensive coordinator Wake Martindale's Ravens defense.
00:17 Ward brought versatility to the Giants defense by being able to play both with his hand in
00:22 the dirt and standing up.
00:25 While he had a decent first season for the Giants in 2022, his production dropped off
00:29 a little bit in 2023.
00:32 Martindale, who once said that wherever he goes he'd like to have Ward with him, is no
00:36 longer with the team.
00:38 And since Ward is an unrestricted free agent, it's probably not a stretch to think that
00:42 Martindale won't lobby for whichever team he lands with to sign the pending unrestricted
00:47 free agent.
00:48 Not that it probably mattered anyway.
00:50 The Giants need to get younger and better on the edge.
00:53 And while Ward was steady, the time has come to turn the page and move on to some newer
00:57 pass rushing talent to help round out what the Giants already have.
