00:00 To all OFWs who want to stay in the Philippines, you can earn while helping the tourism industry.
00:07 The government has a program to train you in the possible businesses.
00:12 And Maris Umali got it right.
00:14 Greener pastures is usually the reason why our countrymen are moving abroad.
00:23 But there are overseas Filipino workers who are also returning to their country.
00:28 They were the ones who were helped by the program of the Department of Tourism and Department of Migrant Workers,
00:32 the Balikbayani sa Turismo Program.
00:35 The goal of this is to give opportunities to our countrymen,
00:40 our returning OFWs, to have various skills in the tourism industry
00:46 so that they can have an economic opportunity when they return to the Philippines.
00:52 You can choose different training programs depending on the interest and ability of the returning OFWs,
00:59 such as micro-retail tourism seminar, farm tourism trainings, community-based culinary,
01:05 homestay training, tour guiding, foreign language speaking,
01:10 and OFW Teach-It-Forward Program for those who have not yet graduated,
01:14 who have 10 years of experience as a manager,
01:16 and who are ready to be part of the pool of resource speakers or trainers of the Department of Tourism.
01:22 Some OFWs were helped by the Tourism Department.
01:25 Keisel has been an OFW in Qatar for almost 10 years.
01:28 And that's where she met her husband.
01:31 In Qatar, it's not a lifetime.
01:37 We really go back and forth as OFWs.
01:41 We thought, what can we do for a living when we go back?
01:46 So what business? To be sustainable, and not just us.
01:52 If we want, we won't just be rich.
01:57 How can we help the community, the farmers, and at the same time, our OFWs?
02:06 They thought of farming, and now their farm is one of the most successful in Nueva Ecija.
02:12 According to the Department of Tourism, 150,000 are their target to be helped in this program.
02:17 And it can be added depending on how many people they repatriate.
02:21 The program is open to returning OFWs and their families,
02:24 and to distressed OFWs.
02:27 I mentioned, to the tune of around 200 million at least,
02:32 are devoted to the returning distressed workers in terms of livelihood.
02:37 I'm talking about resources of DMW and OWA.
02:40 But we need to harness the opportunities given to them.
02:46 So training, they need to know what they can do in this program launched today.
02:54 The program is expected to start in May this year.
02:57 For those who want to avail this program,
02:59 you can just go to the websites of DOT and DMW
03:03 to provide additional information on the process.
