Two teenagers have been charged with murder over the death of a young doctor in Melbourne. Ash Gordon's body was found after a suspected aggravated burglary in the city's northeast on Saturday morning.

00:00 Police discovered the body of much-loved local GP, 33-year-old Dr. Ash Gordon, in Ildon Street
00:09 in Doncaster, which is in Melbourne's northeastern suburbs, around 5.30 on Saturday morning.
00:16 And Ildon Street is just a short distance away, probably less than a kilometre from
00:20 Sergeant Street, which is where Dr. Gordon's home is.
00:24 And it's understood that he was alerted to intruders in his home.
00:28 He then called out to his housemate to get in contact with 000 before chasing these offenders
00:35 out of the home.
00:36 And police say it's alleged that that's when there was this confrontation before he was
00:41 fatally stabbed.
00:43 Two boys, both aged 16, have been charged with murder, aggravated burglary and theft,
00:50 and they're due to appear in the Children's Court at a later date.
00:53 And of course, there's been a huge outpouring of grief in the local community.
00:58 He was, as I mentioned, a really much-loved local GP in one of the Box Hill clinics there.
01:05 He also had recently started up his own cosmetic clinic in Richmond, in Melbourne's east.
01:11 And people were really just horrified by the fact that his life had been cut so tragically
01:16 short.
01:17 He also came from a very large and loving family as well.
01:21 He was the youngest of five siblings and was the beloved uncle of five nieces and three
01:27 nephews.
01:29 And we've heard from the Serious Crimes Division Unit Superintendent, Janet Stephenson, who
01:34 says that Homicide Squad detectives have really worked tirelessly with specialist units and
01:40 also local police to identify, locate and also apprehend those that they believe were
01:46 responsible for this tragedy.
01:48 She goes on to say that we know that Ash's family and loved ones are grieving, and this
01:54 arrest will not take away the tragedy of this dreadful situation, but we hope it will alleviate
01:59 some of that distress.
02:01 We continue to provide all the support they require during this difficult time.
02:07 And she goes on to just reiterate how much of a valued member of the community Dr Gordon
02:12 was, and how everybody is really struggling to make sense of what has occurred.
02:17 And she says that she understands that this sort of incident can really create uncertainty
02:23 and fear in the community, but she wants people to know that Victoria Police are doing everything
02:30 to make sure that people can feel safe in their homes.
02:33 And she says that they will use all of their power to make sure that that is a reality.
02:38 But once again, just reiterating that those two boys charged with murder, aggravated burglary
02:43 and theft, will appear in court in the Children's Court on a later date.
