2023 NY Giants Position Review: Quarterbacks
Transcript
00:00 The New York Giants quarterback position is at a crossroads this offseason,
00:04 a result of regression shown by starter Daniel Jones before he suffered a season-ending knee injury,
00:09 and partly due to his latest injury history, which in addition to the ACL,
00:15 included a second neck ailment in the last three years.
00:18 Giants General Manager Joe Shane has admitted that the position will need to be addressed,
00:24 but he's not tipping his hand just yet as to how he plans to address it.
00:28 The early expectation is that once Jones is cleared medically, he will be the starter next season.
00:34 But the Giants are also in a very good spot this year to where if they have a strong belief in one
00:39 of the top quarterbacks in this year's draft class, they can look to move up.
00:43 Meanwhile, the expectation is also that the team will move on from backup Tyrod Taylor,
00:48 who will be a UFA, while Tommy DeVito, who was pressed into a starting role this year thanks to
00:54 injuries to the guys in front of him, will hopefully spend part of the offseason working
00:58 on the deficiencies in his game, such as his post-snap reads, so that he can become part
01:04 of the discussion for QB2 when the team reconvenes in the spring.
01:07 When it comes down to the quarterback, it all depends on what Shane does in free agency and
01:12 the draft. That will tell us for sure what the future of Daniel Jones, who is entering
01:18 year two of his four-year $160 million contract extension, is all about.
