00:20 The New South Wales Government is planning for a new interchange
00:23 on the M1 Princess Motorway at the base of Mount Ousley
00:27 to improve safety, ease congestion and provide better
00:31 and more reliable trips for people, business and freight.

00:39 The interchange would replace the existing Mount Ousley Road intersection
00:43 and improve access to Wollongong and the University of Wollongong.
00:47 Key features for the interchange would include
00:50 the separation of light and heavy vehicles at the base of Mount Ousley,
00:55 a new bridge over the motorway,
00:58 a new northern access to the University of Wollongong,
01:02 a new service road connecting Mount Ousley Road to University Avenue.

01:13 The proposed interchange would provide heavy vehicle bypass lanes
01:17 to provide a safer and more efficient access to Mount Ousley Road.
01:23 Travelling south from Sydney, heavy vehicles would need to exit
01:27 onto the heavy vehicle bypass.
01:29 From here, heavy vehicles would either travel under Mount Ousley Road
01:33 to continue south on the motorway
01:35 or exit onto Mount Ousley Road for access to Wollongong.
01:39 Two new safety ramps would also be provided at this location.
01:44 Light vehicles travelling south would either continue on the motorway as normal
01:49 or use a separate light vehicle exit onto Mount Ousley Road.

02:02 As light vehicles exit the motorway, motorists would either travel
02:06 on a new service road for access to University Avenue
02:09 or continue on the off-ramp to access the interchange.
02:13 From a new eastern roundabout, motorists could
02:17 enter onto the service road for access to University Avenue
02:21 and the motorway towards Nowra,
02:23 travel over the new bridge to access the motorway towards Sydney
02:27 or the University of Wollongong,
02:29 or access Mount Ousley Road toward the northern suburbs of Wollongong.

02:41 The project would provide pedestrian and cyclist connections
02:44 over Mount Ousley Road and the motorway to connect suburbs to the north
02:48 with the University of Wollongong, Curerville and Wollongong TAFE.

02:58 The heavy vehicle bypass would re-enter the motorway after the interchange
03:02 where light and heavy travel speeds are similar and traffic volumes are reduced.
03:07 This allows for a safe emerging environment.

03:15 A larger commuter car park would be relocated south of the motorway
03:19 to provide safer and easier access for commuters.
03:23 A new western roundabout connects the interchange to the motorway
03:27 and the University of Wollongong.
03:30 From this roundabout, motorists could
03:33 travel over the new bridge to access the eastern roundabout,
03:37 access the commuter car park,
03:39 use the on-ramp to travel on the motorway towards Sydney
03:43 or access the University of Wollongong.
