Frigid air has sent the temperature below zero in more than a dozen states, and the cold conditions aren't expected to let up in the short term with a teeth-chattering chill expected all the way to the Gulf Coast.

00:00 Well, one of the big stories has been
00:02 this Arctic blast of air that just
00:04 hasn't gone away and this is going
00:06 to be the pattern the flavor if you
00:09 will as we head into the middle of the
00:11 week we have this Arctic blast of air
00:14 reaching as far South as parts of the
00:16 Gulf Coast with a record challenging
00:18 temps on a tap for the central US.
00:20 And if we look at this Arctic blast,
00:23 you'll see where that really,
00:24 really cold air is.
00:25 It's so cold that it's no longer blue or white.
00:28 It's now pink and purple that's going
00:30 to stay entrenched across the northern
00:31 half of the country as we head into
00:33 the middle of the week that's going
00:35 to cause some danger to livestock
00:37 and people outdoors.
00:38 This is dangerous cold.
00:39 Make sure you are dressing appropriately.
00:40 If you do have to head out,
00:42 bundle up head to toe.
00:44 No skin exposed,
00:44 but that high risk of frozen pipes
00:46 also going to be a top concern as
00:48 we head over these next few days.
00:50 So do what you can to prevent that.
00:52 Run some water and ice drip.
00:53 Drop is enough.
00:54 Maybe open the cabinets,
00:55 run the heat if you can.
00:56 Let's see where highs go as we head into.
00:59 Tuesday one degree in Chicago,
01:01 so you're not doing so great
01:02 as we head into Tuesday.
01:04 Make sure of course you are
01:06 dressing appropriately.
01:06 Bundle up add layer after layer.
01:08 If you do have to head out Minneapolis,
01:11 you're at 6 degrees Denver a
01:13 little bit better than Monday.
01:14 You're at a high of 26 for your Tuesday,
01:17 Wichita 23 Memphis just 20.
01:19 It's so cold even a further South
01:21 that we have to bust out the acua.
01:23 The real field temperature map
01:25 from Oklahoma City to Wichita.
01:27 You're in that light purple.
01:28 You're running 20 to 10 degrees below
01:31 zero waking up early Wednesday morning.
01:33 So if you have the kids at the bus stop,
01:36 maybe it's a good idea to drive them there.
01:38 Wait in the warm car while the bus comes,
01:41 because these are dangerous
01:43 conditions to be out and about.
01:44 And make sure you are adding those
01:47 extra layers even as far South
01:48 as Dallas up towards Little Rock.
01:50 Like you are,
01:51 the real field temperatures could
01:52 run as low as 10 degrees below zero,
01:55 so again we are talking about very,
01:57 very cold air so cold.
01:59 In fact, we are in record territory.
02:01 Dodge City, Kansas could very well
02:02 beat their old record of 9 below
02:05 with their daily record challenging
02:06 low temperatures of 9 below set back in.
02:09 1885 were forecasting 12 below as
02:12 we wake up Tuesday morning.
02:13 Similar story across areas of Kansas,
02:15 Colorado, Oklahoma City,
02:17 even through Arkansas.
02:18 And as we head into early Wednesday,
02:20 well,
02:20 the cold air is going to stick around.
02:23 Dallas Little Rock,
02:24 Nashville, even Northern Alabama,
02:25 Atlanta.
02:26 You're going to be running with your
02:28 accurate the real field temperatures
02:29 between 0 to 10 degrees waking
02:31 up on Wednesday morning.
