00:05 You understand me? Okay, that's enough.
00:07 Go on.
00:10 Let's go. Let's go.
00:11 Clay "The Weapon" Waterman,
00:13 Kareem "Supreme" Hackett.
00:17 Light heavyweight matchup for the vacant
00:20 WBA Intercontinental Light Heavyweight belt.
00:23 [Bell dings]
00:25 Here we go! It's time to fight.
00:29 White and gold trunks for the Australian,
00:32 the Southpaw, purple and black trunks,
00:35 Kareem Hackett from Toronto, Ontario, Canada,
00:39 but he has never fought in Canada.
00:42 He fights tonight for the first time here on ProBoxTV.
00:47 Long, wide stance for Hackett.
00:51 [Indistinct shouting]
00:53 You can see Waterman going to try to close that gap right away,
00:58 and Hackett on that back foot.
01:00 Southpaw looking to set up those counters.
01:03 Interesting clashing styles here.
01:04 You can see that aggressive body language already by Waterman.
01:08 Nice little pot shot there by Hackett.
01:10 [Indistinct shouting]
01:14 Hackett very driven, a hard worker.
01:19 Of all the qualities in which were talked about pre-fight,
01:24 Julian Chawa's manager said his fight IQ
01:28 is what really separates him from the rest.
01:31 11-0 against 11-0.
01:33 [Indistinct shouting]
01:36 Aggressive start for Waterman.
01:48 Hackett looking for the body.
01:50 Yeah, Hackett trying to pick his shots,
01:52 trying to use that probing lead hand,
01:55 which I think is smart, you know,
01:56 is force Waterman to get by it.
01:57 And if you keep Waterman on the end of that,
01:59 even if he's coming forward, you can keep him on the end
02:01 of some sharp punches with the left hand.
02:03 Waterman's going to have to close that gap a little better.
02:05 He's got to get out of that middle range,
02:08 and he's going to be effective,
02:09 because right at that middle range
02:10 is where Hackett can use that probing shot
02:13 to keep him at a middle-range distance
02:15 so he can get enough leverage on the left hands.
02:18 That's what Waterman wants to do there,
02:19 using a double right hand to get inside.
02:21 That was smart.
02:23 Round one picking up here.
02:27 Two unbeatens in our co-main event tonight.
02:30 [Indistinct shouting]
02:33 Hackett to the body.
02:36 7-inch reach advantage.
02:42 Waterman, a self-described competitive and feisty kid.
02:49 [Indistinct shouting]
02:52 He loves to utilize the jab.
02:57 Sometimes it's tricky to jab on those southpaws,
03:02 but you still want to use that jab.
03:05 Waterman trying to press his way in,
03:07 not really using that jab,
03:08 but he's using a double right hand

05:23 which is who can do it.

05:26 staying on the outside, staying long,
05:29 using that reach and that southpaw position
05:32 to keep Waterman on the outside of his shots.
05:34 [Indistinct chatter]

06:01 to keep that pressure on.

06:51 And Waterman carries those hands a little bit low.
06:55 Hackett took advantage.
06:57 He also doesn't give you a lot of head movement on the way in.
06:59 He's kind of trying to force his way in,

07:03 Beautiful body shot there from Hackett.

07:08 And Waterman's gonna have to get that head movement rhythm
07:12 not just for defensive purposes,
07:13 but also to be a little bit deceptive on his attack,
07:15 because otherwise, you know,

07:20 That's what he's starting to do.
07:21 That's why you're starting to see those little counter body shots
07:23 landed by Hackett.
07:24 Nice, round, smooth boxing by Hackett.

07:41 And we see that pop, straight left hand
07:42 down the middle from Hackett.
07:45 And again, Champ, like you said,
07:46 Waterman is hanging out in that middle distance,
07:48 and he's getting picked apart by Hackett,
07:50 who's being real slick and picking his punches really well.
07:52 And I'll tell you what the cool thing about that timing
07:54 was there by Hackett.
07:55 Waterman had had decent success with that double right hand.
07:58 Right there, he's trying to throw a double right hand.
07:59 He gets caught between right hands with the body shot.
08:02 Good timing shot by Hackett.
08:05 And Waterman needs to be more explosive
08:06 to close that distance.
08:08 He's starting to slow already.
08:09 And also more deceptive.
08:12 If he does it off the head movement,
08:13 see how people think head movement is just for defense?
08:16 But head movement is also for your attack as well,
08:18 because it kind of gives you that deceptive rhythm,
08:22 and all of a sudden, you fire off that rhythm.
08:23 And there's nothing there by Waterman.
08:26 And in our fighter interviews, as I mentioned before,
08:28 Julian said of all the attributes
08:31 that Kareem brings into the boxing ring,
08:34 that high fight IQ is one of them.
08:36 And you saw him utilize some great technique
08:39 and some great strategy in round number two.
08:42 Round three.
08:43 Very, very slick tonight.
08:45 You don't see a lot of technical guys from Australia.
08:48 It's weird. They're all, like, super tough guys.
08:51 That's why I can appreciate Ken Zhu,
08:53 because he's actually technical.
08:54 Most of those guys in Australia, all my life,
08:57 I mean, going back to Jeff Fennec and stuff,
08:59 they're just rugged, tough, tough, sturdy guys.
09:02 So they have to be in greatly conditioned,
09:04 and they have to really go through a lot of punishment
09:06 to be successful.
09:07 And Waterman's gonna have to force his way in here.
09:09 Otherwise, Hackett's gonna grow in confidence,
09:11 and it's gonna get even more difficult.
09:12 But Waterman's already in a place
09:13 where he needs to make a big change,
09:14 because he's taken a lot of leather on the way in.
09:18 And even when he does get in, he's not getting any work done.

09:52 I mean, it's coming from the back hand,

10:00 Hackett mixes up that left hand really nice.
10:02 Pops it straight.
10:03 Doesn't have a lot of fat on the punch.
10:04 Shows it right down the middle.
10:06 It's one of those punches where the glove just gets bigger
10:07 until it hits you.
10:09 Waterman's gonna have to be a little bit more decisive.
10:12 He's not giving that rhythm.

21:12 You would think Waterman would faint
21:14 at least at a certain point,
21:15 knowing that Hackett's looking for the same thing.
21:17 I mean, reaction, throw that body shot.
21:18 You would think there'd be a faint
21:19 at least after three in a row.
21:23 I haven't seen a faint yet from Waterman.
21:24 No. Head movement there is a little slight faint,
21:27 but nothing enough that it's actually gonna be noticeable
21:31 to work on Hackett.
21:32 Yeah, but a faint, you gotta sell it.
21:34 You gotta sell it enough that your opponent's
21:36 actually gonna have a reaction.
21:38 Oh, again, you can hear that one.
21:42 That was a nice sweeping, ripping body shot.
21:45 Five wins in 2022.
21:48 Tonight, the third fight here in 2023 for Clay Waterman.
21:53 Nice boxing this round for Hackett.
21:56 I gotta give those Australians credit, though.
21:58 I mean, Waterman is in shape.
22:00 Yeah.
22:01 Continuously bringing that pressure.
22:02 Sometimes you like to see him up the tempo of that pressure,
22:05 but he's been coming forward the whole fight.
22:07 And Paulie Waterman, the first Australian
22:09 to win an amateur world championship.
22:13 He did so back in 2011.
22:16 At what age?
22:18 Bronze medalist at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

22:26 at the 2020 Olympic Games.
22:30 You know, Goldie, he said both of his hands are the weapons,
22:32 but that left hook, that thing is screaming when he throws it.
22:35 I think that's the best weapon of Waterman so far
22:38 that I've seen.
22:40 Yeah, it's been sharp when he's gotten close
22:41 and the game of the game and landed it.
22:42 That's been the shot that's probably--
22:44 with the left hands on both guys.
22:46 I mean, Hackett's left hand to the body has been good.
22:49 It's been the variation of Hackett's left hand
22:51 and the veracity of the left hand from Waterman.
22:55 He's got a real sharp left hook.
22:56 There it is again.
22:59 He's got to sell it a little better, like you said, Jake.

23:47 Hackett was-- He had a little bit of success,
23:50 and he was like, "All right, let me touch that body,
23:52 slow him down," and it worked.
23:53 That was actually another good round for Hackett.

24:31 Hackett comes out firing.
24:34 And again.
24:36 Hackett looks super calm,
24:38 wasn't out of breath at all in the corner.
24:40 Very much in control.
24:41 And there's long reach in that long straight left again,
24:45 trying to go right up the middle to the body.
24:47 And all he really needs is that probing hand.
24:50 There's no head movement on the part of Waterman,
24:51 so if he gives that probing lead hand
24:53 and he keeps it out there just measuring,
24:55 I mean, Waterman's not really going to get through it,
24:56 and he's going to keep him at a distance where the left hand,
24:59 when he throws it, he's going to have leverage on him
25:00 because it's going to be at a proper distance.
25:03 But you see, sometimes he doesn't always use
25:04 that probing hand.
25:05 You see, now he's got it back at home.
25:07 But look, when he uses that probing hand,
25:08 look, Waterman just gives him that high guard
25:10 and then gives him that left hand.
25:12 Again to the body.
25:13 It's pretty -- Game plan is pretty easy
25:15 against a guy who doesn't move his head and comes forward.
25:17 But you just got to be able to stick with it.
25:20 Julian Chow said that Hackett knows how to take
