Coco Gauff, classée 4e mondiale et gagnante de l'US Open 2023, s'est qualifiée pour le deuxième tour de l'Open d'Australie en une heure exacte en battant la Slovaque Anna Karolina Schmiedlova (68e) 6-3, 6-0 lundi.
A partir de 4-3 dans le premier set, Gauff n'a plus laissé aucun jeu à Schmiedlova et en a aligné huit de suite.
