00:35 [DING]
00:37 Killed the Great Deku Tree.
00:39 The Legend of Zelda, Ocarina of Time.
00:42 [MUSIC]
00:49 There are a great many evil deeds done by Ganondorf in Ocarina of Time.
00:53 His first is also one of the most personal.
00:56 After the Great Deku Tree refuses to give up the Kokiri's Emerald, Ganondorf curses him.
01:01 First time players may think they're saving him by clearing the first dungeon, but as he says, he was doomed before you began.
01:08 [MUSIC]
01:16 The Guardian Deity, who looked after Link and so many Kokiri, imparts some wisdom before turning cold and gray.
01:23 Before Ganondorf's even properly introduced, Ocarina of Time makes it clear that he's going to be a big deal.
01:29 And he was only just getting started.
01:31 [MUSIC]
01:38 Manipulated the Twili.
01:40 The Legend of Zelda, Twilight Princess.
01:43 [MUSIC]
01:49 In Twilight Princess, some sages learn the hard way that there's only one sword that can get rid of Ganondorf.
01:55 And even after banishing him to the Twilight Realm, he doesn't lie down and accept defeat.
02:01 Instead, he finds a sap in Zant, a power-hungry member of the Twili race tired of his lot in life.
02:08 Ganondorf plays God, manipulating and empowering Zant to overthrow Midna and lead an army into Hyrule.
02:14 [MUSIC]
02:23 This naturally leads to a whole lot of misfortune for a lot of innocent folk.
02:28 Because not only are the people of Hyrule affected, but the army Ganondorf grants Zant consists of innocent Twili transformed into monsters.
02:37 Which Link then has to kill.
02:39 Pretty messed up.
02:40 [MUSIC]
02:46 Killed his followers.
02:48 The Legend of Zelda, A Link to the Past.
02:51 [MUSIC]
02:59 The backstory of A Link to the Past contains what may not be an ultra-evil act, but still quite a dick move.
03:06 Prior to the events of the game, Ganon finds the hidden entrance to the Sacred Realm, which he enters to steal the Triforce.
03:13 However, after he enters the realm, he turns to his men and murders all of them.
03:19 He does this so that none of them will stand against him in claiming the Triforce, which, fair, wars are waged over this thing literally all the time.
03:26 But still, to kill your own men who helped you get to the Sacred Realm in the first place is pretty cold.
03:32 [MUSIC]
03:38 Kidnapped children.
03:40 The Legend of Zelda, The Wind Waker.
03:42 [MUSIC]
03:49 When Ganondorf returns to the world in Wind Waker, he gets right to trying to find Princess Zelda.
03:54 And he does this by kidnapping every little girl across the Great Sea he can get his hands on.
03:59 It's pretty low to steal children from their homes, but he doesn't even have the decency to do it himself.
04:05 Instead, he just sends his giant pet bird to do it for him, which has got to be the more terrifying option.
04:11 [MUSIC]
04:19 And does he let the girls go once he learns they aren't Zelda?
04:23 Of course not. He just tosses them in a cage, because who cares.
04:27 [MUSIC]
04:35 Murdered Queen Sonia.
04:37 The Legend of Zelda, Tears of the Kingdom.
04:39 [MUSIC]
04:45 Oh my. I'm surprised to hear you say such a thing.
04:49 Although we would have liked to see a bit more of him, Ganondorf gets some fantastically vile scenes in Tears of the Kingdom.
04:55 This includes murdering Queen Sonia in cold blood.
04:59 Though we didn't get much time with her either, Sonia was a warm and caring character.
05:03 And she meant a lot to Zelda, who witnessed her death.
05:06 [MUSIC]
05:14 Of course, it's never just a one-off murder with this guy.
05:17 He also steals Queen Sonia's secret stone, transforms into a demon king, and spreads death across the land.
05:24 All this after he agrees to peace terms with Rauru.
05:27 But since the only thing standing between him and ungodly power was one wittle old murder, we can't say we were surprised it happened.
05:35 [MUSIC]
05:42 Killed Link.
05:44 The Legend of Zelda, Ocarina of Time.
05:46 [MUSIC]
05:56 Well, Ocarina of Time, sort of.
06:00 It was long thought by many fans that the end of Ocarina split the timeline in two.
06:04 One in which Link relives his childhood, and the other, the future he leaves behind.
06:09 But then, Nintendo put out the official timeline and said, "No, actually, there's a third in which Ganon kills Link."
06:16 [MUSIC]
06:24 Seeing as how this is the only canonical instance in which the villain kills the hero, it's kind of a big deal.
06:30 Plus, it then leads to a whole lot of other horrible things in the fallen timeline,
06:35 including with Zelda 2, in which Hyrule is looking a bit worse for wear.
06:39 [MUSIC]
06:44 Used his people, Varius.
06:47 "It was written that Calamity Ganon once adopted the form of a Gerudo."
06:52 In addition to murdering his followers in A Link to the Past, Ganondorf has never been shown to be that caring of a leader.
06:59 You'd think he'd be more grateful, considering he was automatically made royalty for being the only male born among the Gerudo, but no.
07:07 He uses them to pursue his own goals in Ocarina of Time,
07:10 even having twin Rova brainwash and enslave poor Nabooru when she doesn't fall in line.
07:16 [MUSIC]
07:23 He's been shown to use them like pawns in the most recent games as well,
07:27 because even in times of strife, what regular citizen would wish for the world to actually get destroyed?
07:33 His connection to the Gerudo is something many of them tend to resent.
07:37 "It will be up to Link to keep Ganon occupied until the moment we unleash our strike."
07:42 Caused a flood.
07:44 The Legend of Zelda, The Wind Waker.
07:46 [MUSIC]
07:52 The prologue of Wind Waker tells us how this world came to be.
07:56 After the Hero of Time left Hyrule, Ganondorf returned.
07:59 And when the hero didn't reappear, the people prayed to the gods,
08:03 who answered with a flood rather than see Ganondorf destroy everything and everyone.
08:07 While yes, the act is done by the gods, it's because that's how dangerous he was.
08:12 [MUSIC]
08:17 This not only displaces all people, forcing their descendants to live scattered across a vast ocean,
08:22 but it forces certain races to evolve into new ones.
08:26 That's not to mention all the people that must have died during his return and the subsequent flood.
08:31 [MUSIC]
08:36 Stole the Triforce of Power.
08:38 The Legend of Zelda, Ocarina of Time.
08:41 [MUSIC]
08:49 After being refused access to the Spiritual Stones in Ocarina of Time,
08:53 Ganondorf gets tired of asking people for things.
08:56 He waits for Link to pull the Master Sword from its pedestal,
08:59 sneaking into the Sacred Realm to steal the Triforce.
09:02 [MUSIC]
09:06 Thankfully, he only gets one.
09:08 But the Triforce of Power is all he needs to absolutely wreck the entire world.
09:13 While Link is in stasis for seven years,
09:15 Ganondorf brings calamity and chaos to all corners of Hyrule,
09:19 freezing Zoras, capturing Goron's defeat to a dragon,
09:23 and demolishing the once thriving Market Square.
09:26 He also grew a mullet in that time, which, while not evil, isn't a great look, buddy.
09:31 [MUSIC]
09:36 Took control of the Guardians and Divine Beasts.
09:39 The Legend of Zelda, Breath of the Wild.
09:42 [MUSIC]
09:49 While the many returns and revivals of Ganon have brought death and destruction,
09:54 it isn't often we really feel the effects.
09:57 But with the Calamity, we definitely do.
10:00 As you piece together Link's memories in Breath of the Wild,
10:03 you learn that a prophecy foretold the villain's return.
10:06 The people prepared, unearthing ancient tech in the Guardians and Divine Beasts.
10:11 However, when Ganon did strike, he took control of the Guardians,
10:14 having them slaughter the people they were meant to protect.
10:17 [MUSIC]
10:28 He also took the Divine Beasts, killing the champions,
10:31 whose loss is still felt by their communities a century later.
10:35 Hyrule was also left in a desolate state,
10:37 where giant, bloodthirsty machines roamed freely.
10:41 [MUSIC]
10:47 What do you think is the worst thing Ganon has done?
