00:00 For this project, the Interior Department and MMDA inspected the length of Pasig River.
00:08 The stations and boats in the Pasig River Ferry Service will also be added.
00:13 And Rafi Tima was able to make it.
00:15 It's now clearer, faster, and cleaner than before.
00:22 This was observed by DILG Secretary Bener Abalos and MMDA Chairman Romando Artes during their ride on the Pasig River Ferry from Guadalupe, Makati to Escolta in Manila.
00:32 The length of the Pasig River was officially visited by two officials as part of the Pasig River Urban Development Project,
00:39 a large project that aims to revive the Pasig River.
00:43 The Pasig River will eventually become a center of activity and tourism.
00:49 You can walk and jog from end to end. It's a big thing.
00:53 But we still have a lot to do.
00:56 But the two officials admitted that the problem of throwing chemicals and garbage in the river is still there.
01:02 They hope that the river itself will not be the focus of their attention.
01:06 We can have trash traps in every steamboat and canal because all of them are being dumped.
01:13 Secondly, there are NGOs who are doing red dredging of the Pasig River. That's very important.
01:19 According to MMDA, last year, 240,000 commuters used the Pasig River Ferry Service.
01:26 And every year, it's getting bigger.
01:29 This year, we will add more boats.
01:33 We will add more stations.
01:37 We have 15 boats. We will add three to four more this year.
01:44 And we have three stations that will hopefully be opened this year.
01:52 From Pasig to Manila, it's only a half-hour trip to the Pasig River, including stopping at stations.
01:59 It's faster than a three-hour trip on the road.
02:03 That's why they expect more people will use the ferry service, especially after the Pasig River Urban Development Project.
02:10 The convenience of riding on the Pasig Ferry is that there's no traffic, the trip is fast and it's free.
02:19 Our fellow citizens will not pay for the ride on the Pasig Ferry Service.
02:27 For GMI Integrated News, Rafi Timan, for Tutok Tlaloc, 24 hours.
