00:00 (upbeat music)
00:02 - Welcome to Style Solutions.
00:10 And today I'm joined as usual by Natalie Dixon.
00:13 Welcome Natalie.
00:15 - Thank you.
00:16 - Today we're gonna be talking about,
00:18 I hope you've guessed it everybody.
00:20 I hope it's obvious from what Natalie and I are wearing,
00:23 but just in case I need to give you a little bit of a nudge,
00:26 it's the color green.
00:29 And we're gonna be talking about how, well, let's start.
00:32 It is huge at the moment.
00:34 It was everywhere on the spring, summer 2024 catwalks,
00:39 in particular shades of pistachio and forest green.
00:44 And award season is in full swing.
00:47 And in case you didn't notice,
00:49 a certain Miss Taylor Swift
00:52 wore a stunning green Gucci dress to the Golden Globes.
00:56 And also Shailene Woodley wore Carolina Herrera
01:00 also in green to the Governor's Awards.
01:02 So Natalie, let's talk about Taylor, green, Gucci,
01:06 you go for it.
01:07 - Yeah, I loved the Taylor Swift dress actually.
01:12 Probably not one of my favorite shades of green,
01:15 but I did think that she looked stunning,
01:17 sort of giving it the old Hollywood style
01:19 with a bit of glitz, bit of glamor for the awards show
01:23 and just figure hugging.
01:26 I thought she looked amazing in it.
01:28 - Did you happen to see in Shailene Woodley,
01:33 her shade of green, the Carolina Herrera dress
01:36 that she wore to the Governor's Awards?
01:38 - Yeah, I thought it was quite brave,
01:40 a little bit more sort of brighter green.
01:43 But again, I think it just shows that green
01:45 is definitely the color of the season.
01:47 - And most definitely, and I would also say,
01:51 although it's fashionable in 2024,
01:54 a certain Royal, Catherine, Princess of Wales,
01:57 seems to be a fan of green for quite a while
02:01 because I don't know if you remember in 2021,
02:04 she wore a most, well, I thought it was beautiful,
02:07 a most beautiful Solace London dress
02:10 to the Earthshot Awards and it was sort of off the shoulder.
02:14 And since then, I think I have spotted her
02:16 in a couple of green dresses
02:17 and I think she looks phenomenal in the color.
02:21 - And I just wondered your thoughts on Kate,
02:24 Catherine and green. - Yeah, I love the dress.
02:27 I love the style of it and the strapless,
02:32 off the shoulder, sorry.
02:34 I thought it was really nice, bigger hugging shape.
02:38 And I love the fact as well that she wasn't afraid
02:41 to wear sort of like emerald diamonds as well
02:43 'cause a lot of the time you think,
02:45 oh, you don't wanna overdo it with the green,
02:47 but I thought that she carried it off really well.
02:51 - And just going back to the award show and the color green,
02:54 it's not a color, well, it's not a color
02:56 I normally associate with sort of awards,
02:59 but I think it's sort of a standout color
03:02 and I think it sort of makes people stop
03:06 and sort of comment on it.
03:07 I just wondered what you thought about green
03:09 at sort of red carpet awards ceremony.
03:12 - Yeah, I think a lot of the time you see
03:15 sort of a lot of people staying safe with black,
03:18 going for the power look with the red dresses
03:21 and even sort of, you know, in the Oscars,
03:23 you see a lot of gold.
03:25 But I think, yeah, you do sort of stop and look
03:28 when it comes to green because it's not such an obvious
03:31 or safe color to wear.
03:33 So I think that anybody that wears the color
03:36 does stand out a lot more.
03:38 - And it's also interesting that weddings,
03:42 the big trend for weddings this year is green.
03:45 And I've worked in wedding sort of magazines for many years
03:50 and green was a color that nobody ever contemplated
03:54 because green was considered unlucky for weddings.
03:56 And a lot of the time, brides didn't want to sort of
03:59 put their bridesmaids in green.
04:01 But I think we had a chat recently
04:03 and you mentioned green bridesmaids dresses.
04:05 Tell me about that.
04:07 - Yeah, when my sister-in-law got married in April,
04:11 she had all of her bridesmaids
04:13 in this really pale sage green color.
04:16 It's a really simple dress,
04:19 floor length and just, I think the color almost gave
04:23 like a sort of country feel to the wedding.
04:26 I think there was lots of white flowers,
04:29 which again, sometimes people try and stay away from,
04:32 but it just looked really elegant and really beautiful.
04:35 And again, it just shows that there's so many different
04:38 shades of green that everyone can kind of wear it.
04:42 - So let's move on and think about and discuss
04:47 how green could work for you,
04:50 because it's all very well talking about celebrities
04:53 and the catwalk, but you probably want to know,
04:58 I'm sure we talk about it all the time,
05:01 how green can work for you and whether a certain green
05:05 looks better on a brunette or a blonde.
05:07 So let's talk about Style Solutions Green
05:11 and how it works for you next.
05:13 (upbeat music)
05:16 (upbeat music)
05:18 - So green and how it can work for you.
05:22 So as you can see, both Natalie and I
05:25 wearing different shades of green.
05:27 And as someone who is a brunette, I've always loved green,
05:32 but I tend to opt for sort of brighter shades of green
05:37 rather than sort of dark green.
05:41 Not that I don't like dark green,
05:43 but I think for somebody who's very pale and brunette,
05:48 I think sort of more vibrant shades of green work for me.
05:52 What are your views, Natalie, on this?
05:55 - So I kind of think that there is definitely
05:58 a shade of green for everyone.
06:01 I think I've got naturally pale skin
06:05 and I tend to do sort of go for more emerald greens.
06:09 I was born in May as well, so it's my birthstone emerald.
06:13 But I think that as long as you've got
06:16 a little bit of color in your cheeks,
06:17 then you could pretty much wear any shade of green.
06:20 But yeah, I think that it makes people
06:24 are a little bit afraid of it.
06:26 - And it's interesting when we think about
06:32 what color, the colors that you can team with green.
06:34 So obviously you're wearing black today with green,
06:37 which works perfectly.
06:42 I'm gonna be quite radical and I'm gonna say
06:45 that I think green can work with pink.
06:47 What are your views on that, Natalie?
06:48 - Yeah, actually, it's funny you say that
06:49 because I would automatically,
06:52 I know that a few years ago, again,
06:54 the blue and green were never to be seen together.
06:58 But looking at sort of like,
07:00 there's plenty of pictures out there now
07:01 that you could easily wear something emerald green
07:05 with a really bright blue color as well.
07:08 So I think the kind of the brights and the clashing
07:11 and the color blocking still work really well.
07:14 - But equally, I think if you are sort of
07:21 little bit of afraid of color
07:23 and the idea of wearing green with a bright pink
07:26 fills you with horror, which I do understand personally,
07:29 it doesn't fill me with horror.
07:30 I love bright colors and I love mixing and matching.
07:33 But I think if you wanna play it safe with green
07:36 and like to sort of have a more cautious approach,
07:39 green and black.
07:40 But I also think sort of a mint green
07:42 looks so lovely with white.
07:44 Again, going back to Catherine, Princess of Wales,
07:48 I'm sure I remember she wore sort of a pale green outfit
07:52 with white to Wimbledon,
07:54 which I think is the perfect place to wear it to.
07:56 What are your views on mint, sort of mint green with white?
08:02 I think that looks really fresh for spring/summer.
08:04 - I think that, yeah, kind of,
08:09 that dress in particular really sort of stood out
08:13 because it went beautifully with her hair.
08:15 But I think even if you had blonde hair,
08:18 you could still wear mint green and white.
08:20 I think those colors are just like, say, classic together.
08:23 But yeah, definitely can stay safe with black as well.
08:26 That's always gonna be easy to wear.
08:29 Yeah, I think, definitely try different things.
08:36 - And I think also, yeah, and I also think in sort of,
08:41 now that we're in sort of the midst of the deep winter,
08:45 when we're not probably thinking
08:46 of sort of mint spring/summer,
08:49 I think forest green is a really good green
08:51 to think about to wear in the winter.
08:54 And what made me think about this even more
08:57 is when I wrote a piece recently
08:58 about Claudia Winkerman on "The Traitors,"
09:01 she's wearing a lot of that sort of forest green,
09:04 which I think works really well on sort of
09:06 cable knit jumpers and dark green coats.
09:10 I think it sort of gives you...
09:12 And it sort of gives your winter wardrobe
09:18 a sort of different edge that perhaps sort of lifts it
09:21 from the sort of darks, sort of browns and grays and blacks.
09:25 So I think if you're thinking of sort of
09:27 wanting to sort of give your winter wardrobe a lift,
09:30 I'd say maybe investing in a green coat
09:33 would be the way forward. - Well, we seem to be
09:34 coming away now from everything seemed at one point
09:37 very beige, very gray, very sort of safe.
09:40 And I think you're right.
09:41 People are now looking more sort of
09:43 adding a little bit of color into their wardrobe.
09:46 So instead of having sort of, you know,
09:48 just adding a little bit of navy,
09:50 then green is definitely the way to go.
09:53 And I think even if people are still afraid
09:55 to actually wear it, you know, head to toe,
09:59 there's other ways to wear it as well,
10:01 like whether it's in your sort of accessories or jewelry.
10:04 Even, you know, I've got a green phone case
10:08 'cause I'm completely obsessed with the color.
10:10 Like anything I can is just green at the minute.
10:13 So there's definitely ways.
10:15 I think, yeah, at Christmas I even braved the green nails,
10:18 which years ago I would never do.
10:21 I would stick to nude always,
10:23 but it's just a little bit different.
10:25 - Yeah, I think we'll leave it there today.
10:31 I hope Natalie and I have convinced you to try green
10:34 and we will be talking about something interesting
10:39 next week, so do join us for the next Style Solutions.
10:42 - Thank you.
10:43 - Thank you.
10:44 (upbeat music)
10:46 you
