00:00 This was an appalling travesty and impacted the lives of so many innocent
00:05 people in all four corners of this kingdom and our hearts go out to those
00:08 people and I really do welcome the swift action that the government is now taking
00:13 to resolve this problem and I hope that it goes some way to help those people
00:18 through what's been a terrible time. Will you assure me that with regards to
00:21 Northern Ireland, he will not allow any delay whatsoever in the implementation
00:27 of these proposals? Excuses are used all the time, "well there's no devolved
00:31 assembly in Northern Ireland". No devolved minister had any role in this, therefore
00:35 there's no role for them with regards to dealing with the victims. Sort it out as
00:38 quickly as possible. Thank you for your comments and that's exactly our
00:41 intention. We are very keen to make this a UK wide scheme so everyone knows exactly
00:44 where they stand. As I said before, the same issues under, despite the
00:49 fact the legal system is different in Northern Ireland, the assembly of the
00:55 cases was done by the post office in most cases, the vast majority of
00:59 cases, so the same issues apply. So we don't want to see any delay, we will be
01:04 engaging with the Northern Irish authorities very keen to do that as quickly as
01:07 possible.
