00:00 Canberra has its own share of big things from Big Swoop the magpie in Civic to Alexander the
00:06 bunyip in Gungahlin to of course Bell Connon's much maligned big powerful owl. However the latest
00:14 big thing turning heads in the ACT is the big fish which lives in a dam beside the busy Majura
00:21 Parkway. It began its life almost 30 years ago as a sculpture at Floriade. It was created by Tony
00:30 Steele and some of his friends and then moved to the Bell Connon fresh food markets in the mid-1990s
00:36 but when the markets were given a makeover last year the fish needed a new place. When I say the
00:43 fish the fish is actually called Albert. It ended up here in this dam at Majura Valley Free Range
00:48 Eads where it lay in pieces for a year or so until John Wilson of Liquor Legends decided it would be
00:54 a great idea to feature in one of his marketing promotions. John set about fixing the fish
01:00 actually a carp bolting it back together under guidance from its creator. Then employing some
01:07 of his own artistic license John also added a mannequin with a fishing line to complete the
01:13 fishing scene. Oh and unlike many other big things around the country which are best viewed during
01:19 daylight hours John also hooked up some solar lights which means you can appreciate Canberra's
01:25 big fish at any time of the day or night.
