Kim Jong Un turns 40 with no public celebration

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un turned 40 without public celebrations, in contrast to the elaborate commemorations for his father and grandfather. As he marked his birthday, Kim's leadership was highlighted in a state news article, which detailed his involvement in major construction projects but made no mention of the occasion, following recent artillery barrages into the sea and vows to expand the country's nuclear arsenal.
