00:00 You could have chosen to quietly re-enter society after your release, but why instead
00:05 did you decide to do this docuseries, which is clearly going to give you even greater
00:08 attention after your release from prison?
00:11 I think the heart of it all is I just want to share my story.
00:16 I want to be a voice for the voiceless.
00:18 I want to come out and just tell people this is who I am.
00:22 This is why I'm doing this.
00:24 It's important to me.
00:25 It's close to my heart.
00:27 And so I'm just tackling it.
00:29 Yes, it is a lot right out of prison, but I'm doing it for a cause.
00:34 She started telling people that I had cancer, but none of it was true.
00:40 There was also a lot of emotional and physical abuse.
00:44 I started to feel like it was either her or me.
00:50 So my purpose for doing this documentary is really to just shed light on mental health
00:58 awareness, Munchausen byproxis syndrome.
01:04 This is why I want to share with others what I've been through, is because if somebody
01:13 out there is watching this, they can see me and know that they're not alone.
01:22 Because when I was living with my mother, I felt very alone.
01:25 I always say that if I had someone to tell me, "Hey, it's safe to talk to someone and
01:31 tell them that you're struggling.
01:33 Tell them that your home situation is bad.
01:36 Tell them you're being abused."
01:38 I wouldn't have committed my crime.
01:41 So that's why it's important for me to share my story.
01:45 Dee Dee Blanchard's death was violent.
01:47 And that's when I hear her calling my name, "Gypsy, help me."
01:52 Her daughter, Gypsy Blanchard, and her boyfriend are now jailed on first degree murder.
01:57 I played a part in asking him to commit the murder.
02:01 That is why I'm in prison.
02:03 I feel like so many people out there feel like they already know you.
02:06 We've seen so many documentaries, so many TV shows about you.
02:10 What do you feel like is the biggest misconception about Gypsy Rose?
02:14 I feel like the biggest misconception about me is that they think that I'm still that
02:19 little girl that got arrested or that was in the wheelchair living with my mother.
02:25 I think they don't realize that there has been a time gap from, you know, it's an eight
02:31 and a half year time gap from when I got arrested to now.
02:36 And I've grown up.
02:37 I've matured.
02:38 I'm a woman.
02:39 I'm married.
02:40 Like, a lot has changed.
02:42 Whereas I think when they watch the previous documentaries and even the act, I think their
02:48 image of me in their mind is still stuck in that time space.
02:53 And they don't allow for any growth because all they see is those images of me living
02:59 with my mom.
03:00 And so I think now that I'm coming out as a woman and sharing my story now, I hope they'll
03:07 see me in a more grown up light.
03:11 You can't breathe.
03:14 Your body strangles you.
03:16 Five minutes.
03:17 I could have lost you forever.
03:19 Is that what you want?
03:21 Have you or will you watch the act that Patricia Arquette, Joey King portray you, your mother?
03:26 Have you seen it yet?
03:27 I have not watched the act, no.
03:28 Do you plan on it?
03:30 I don't plan on watching it.
03:32 I lived it.
03:34 For me, looking for things that weren't correct or that were inaccurate, that's neither here
03:42 nor there for me.
03:45 That's why I'm doing this docuseries is to share my truth of the actual events that took
03:51 place.
03:52 I'm not trying to Hollywood it up.
03:54 I'm just trying to share my story in the truest of lights.
03:58 My mother walked into the room and she had a wheelchair with her and very bluntly told
04:07 me to use the wheelchair.
04:13 I didn't understand her reasonings, but I trusted her.
04:17 She was my best friend and I loved her and I never questioned as a child.
04:24 And your mother really isolated you.
04:25 I mean, had you spoken out and told your truth to someone, would circumstances have been
04:32 different you think?
04:33 I think so.
04:34 Absolutely.
04:35 One of my biggest regrets is not just calling my dad up and telling him what was going on
04:40 in my life.
04:41 The first time I tried to run away, she chained me to the bed.
04:47 And before I knew it, I pulled the trigger.
04:52 She never wanted me to find love or be happy.
04:56 It was crazy.
04:58 We see in this documentary that your family has regrets, healthcare professionals have
05:02 regrets.
05:03 So the one regret you have is that you didn't reach out to your father?
05:05 Exactly.
05:06 I have many regrets, but the biggest one is that I didn't call my dad and just express
05:14 how much I needed his help.
05:16 Now looking back on it, I wish that I stood up for myself more.
05:22 But people don't know that there was a lot of emotional abuse attached with the medical
05:31 abuse and they don't know how far back she was doing this to me.
05:39 How did that prison time allow you to grow?
05:43 Because at one point in the series, you said something along the lines of, you don't think
05:47 you would have been prepared to live a life on your own or have complete freedom.
05:51 So prison in a sense was the time for you to experience growth.
05:57 So how did that help you?
05:59 I always say that life is what you make it.
06:04 And so I took the complicated situation, I took a situation that I had no control over
06:11 and I turned it into a positive.
06:13 So I worked for eight and a half years to take classes, get my GED, better myself as
06:19 a person, grow from that, make it not wasted or dead time.
06:25 I just want to send a quick video to thank everyone for the massive amount of support
06:30 that I've been getting on social media.
06:32 So many people are interested in your story.
06:34 I mean, your newfound social media fame is next level.
06:38 How are you wrapping your mind around your now famous status on the 'Graham'?
06:44 I don't even comprehend it at this point because for me, I'm just another face in the crowd.
06:51 So when I came out of prison, I didn't expect this giant wave of social media.
06:57 I'm posting selfies just like the next person would or the next person, not thinking anything
07:01 of it.
07:02 And before I know it, it has 2 million views.
07:05 I'm just like, okay.
07:07 You've got 6 million followers and counting.
07:10 I'd say so.
07:11 So what was your reaction?
07:12 I mean, it was just like mind blowing for you, huh?
07:14 It's an adjustment.
07:15 Like I didn't have social media for the longest time.
07:18 So you know, I'm having fun with the selfies and the Snapchats and all of this.
07:23 Girl, you're on everything.
07:24 You're on Instagram.
07:25 I'm on Instagram, TikTok, Twitter.
07:26 I'm on everything.
07:27 You know, I'm just having fun with it.
07:30 That's awesome.
07:31 Has there been a celebrity or influencer that's followed you that's kind of made you star
07:35 struck?
07:36 I haven't honestly checked my DMs.
07:38 Girl, come on now.
07:39 Gypsy.
07:40 I am so flooded right now.
07:42 I just post and kind of let it be.
07:44 I'm just like, oh, that's a cute picture.
07:46 You're not looking at those DMs?
07:47 No.
07:48 Okay.
07:49 So to everyone out there, I don't check my DMs.
07:51 Sorry.
07:52 Fair enough.
07:53 Fair enough.
07:54 I'm like, is the guy on the screen?
07:55 Coming straight home to me.
07:57 Bet Taylor Swift was a huge inspiration to you while you were in prison.
08:01 What about her inspired you?
08:03 I love her music.
08:04 I mean, I don't think that there's many people that don't love her music.
08:08 She's hitting the top charts right now.
08:10 But I think that she is an inspiration to women.
08:14 She's all about girl power, which is great.
08:17 So yeah, I'm just, I like her music and I think that she's a great artist.
08:22 Do you have a favorite song or era first?
08:24 I am loving her Midnight's Era right now.
08:27 I'm loving it.
08:28 Karma has been like my number one on my playlist.
08:32 Shocking.
08:33 Shocking.
08:34 Have you seen the Eras tour?
08:35 I haven't yet.
08:36 I want to though.
08:37 Plan to go maybe to see the concert actually?
08:38 Yeah.
08:39 At some point I plan to go.
08:40 Yeah.
08:41 At some point I plan to go.
08:41 At some point I plan to go.
08:42 Yeah.
08:43 Yeah.
08:44 Yeah.
08:44 Yeah.
08:45 Yeah.
08:46 Yeah.
08:47 Yeah.
