00:00 Meghan Markle was insulted after Palace assigned Queen Elizabeth's black equerry to help her
00:05 feel comfortable.
00:21 And in a reported effort to assist Meghan Markle in acclimating to Palace life, Queen
00:27 Elizabeth II purportedly recommended the support of her Ghanaian-born equerry, Lieutenant-Colonel
00:33 Nanakofi Fumasi Ankara, according to details in Omid Skobie's book titled Endgame.
00:48 And by the way, an equerry is a highly honoured senior attendant, so this isn't just some
00:53 regular assistant that you can find on a job posting website.
00:58 These are honoured officers, so they are seen as people who have a lot of value to offer,
01:05 as well as they're highly respected.
01:07 So Meghan Markle finding this pretty insulting, that's a little bit surprising.
01:13 And by the way, this equerry is biracial too, not full black.
01:17 And Meghan Markle is also biracial.
01:20 Meghan Markle's frank comments about race have opened some old wounds for many interracial
01:25 couples.
01:26 But let's talk about the intention behind this.
01:28 The intention was to aid Meghan Markle, who is biracial, in her royal duties.
01:33 However, the suggestion was met with discontent from Meghan Markle, as well as her friends,
01:38 who found this straight up insulting.
01:40 Omid Skobie also notes in his book that this incident underscored a perceived deficiency
01:45 of diversity in senior roles within the royal palace, particularly in terms of black or
01:51 non-white staff.
01:58 Omid Skobie also goes on to claim that a friend of Meghan Markle said this, "I doubt Kate
02:04 was offered an equerry for guidance."
02:06 And this brings up an interesting point, because with Meghan Markle, the topic of race was
02:11 something that she has said that she was uncomfortable with, and she cites her experiences in the
02:17 royal family.
02:18 Kate, of course, would have had different experiences, but she was also given mentors
02:23 in different ways who fit her circumstances.
02:26 So there's no surprise that Meghan Markle would receive palace aid that fit her specific
02:32 needs and her specific circumstances.
02:35 And the other thing is that Meghan Markle was initially assigned Lady Susan Hussey to
02:39 assist her in adapting to her new royal responsibilities, and this is according to Omid Skobie, as well
02:45 as previous reports, they also said the same thing.
02:48 However, Meghan Markle had actually declined the offer for Lady Susan's support.
02:53 Subsequently, the palace, which asserted it had made considerable efforts for Meghan Markle,
02:59 proposed Nana Kofi Sumasi-Ankara as a mentor for her instead.
03:07 And in another book, titled The Palace Papers, written by Tina Brown, she highlights that
03:13 the palace's suggestions for Meghan Markle's support actually lacked a lot of diversity,
03:19 as none of the experienced palace assistants that were recommended were women of color.
03:24 And Tina Brown, she specifically wrote this, "The glaring but unspoken problem was that
03:29 none of these experienced palace hands were women of color."
03:33 From there, she goes on to write this, "As for the lady-in-waiting, the Queen had
03:37 offered for support, what on earth did the 80-year-old Lady Susan Hussey have of use
03:44 for a 38-year-old biracial American actress trying to navigate the treacherous palace
03:50 system?"
03:51 Now, this is a loaded comment, because of course, I could see Meghan Markle saying,
03:57 "Okay, this person, I kind of feel uncomfortable with them because of how they speak.
04:01 Maybe they're not communicating well.
04:03 Maybe Meghan Markle didn't look up to Lady Susan as a mentor."
04:07 So the palace was like, "Okay, all right, we get it.
04:09 So let's switch it up."
04:11 But Meghan still found the switch up insulting.
04:14 So what do you do in that case?
04:16 Maybe Meghan Markle wanted a black or biracial woman, not a biracial man.
04:21 Clearly, she did not want an older white woman to be her mentor.
04:26 And speaking of Lady Susan Hussey, by the way, she actually had resigned from her royal
04:30 duties in 2022 following unacceptable and deeply regrettable comments made to a black
04:36 domestic mistreatment campaigner.
04:39 So maybe Meghan had some good reason to not be mentored by Lady Susan.
04:42 But yeah, that's another story for another time.
04:45 These revelations in Omid Scobie's book, by the way, they follow a Dutch misprint of his
04:51 book Endgame, which mistakenly identified Kate Middleton and King Charles as two royals
04:57 that were accused of making racial remarks about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's son,
05:04 Prince Archie.
05:05 In a March 2021 interview with Oprah, Meghan Markle disclosed concerns raised about the
05:10 skin color of her then unborn son, Archie, though the individuals involved were not named
05:16 at this point.
05:17 And of course, this caused a shockwave to be sent all over the planet because people
05:23 were wondering, okay, did people in the royal family actually have derogatory comments to
05:28 make about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's unborn child at the time?
05:32 Or was Meghan Markle completely exaggerating?
05:35 Because let's face it, depending on the family that you're in, people talk about skin color
05:41 and how a child might look.
05:45 Is it going to look more like the father, more like the mother?
05:48 And it just comes up in casual conversation, not that any derogatory comments are being
05:53 made.
05:54 So maybe Meghan misheard this.
05:56 Some people are saying that.
05:58 Despite avoiding direct responses to reporters, a source revealed that Prince William and
06:03 King Charles are reportedly in discussion regarding potential legal action following
06:08 this misprint in the book Endgame.
06:10 And the source emphasized that these conversations will be approached with care, time, as well
06:17 as professionalism, rather than being hastily decided over.
06:21 All right, guys, so that's all the scoop I have for you in this one.
06:25 I've said a lot.
06:26 There's a whole lot of talk about race, a whole lot of talk about the royal family,
06:31 misprints, Meghan Markle, the queen, so much going on.
06:37 And it's so hard to decipher what the truth actually is because at the end of the day,
06:43 you can only go by people's perspectives and their accounts.
06:47 And as they say, there is that side, that side, and then there's a truth that falls
06:52 somewhere in the middle.
06:53 So I really want to know, what do you think the truth is about anything that I shared
06:57 in this video, all the issues that I brought up?
06:59 Be sure to let me know in the comments section.
07:01 And thanks for hanging out with me here on FTD News.
07:03 I'll catch you guys next time.
