00:00 The 12 days of Christmas may be over but the wintry weather has just begun.
00:05 Temperatures across the county have dropped to highs of just above freezing,
00:09 with icy streets creating a higher risk of injury.
00:13 Here on Rochester High Street, the reactions from residents have been just a tad frosty.
00:18 So how are you enjoying the snow on your birthday?
00:20 Yeah, I've never had a white birthday before, quite a shock to us today.
00:24 It's not ideal, it's a bit cold. It's always fun to see the snow,
00:29 but I'd rather it be a bit drier today actually.
00:33 It's a bit mental. It's just one minute we're tipping it down with rain and the next we've got
00:38 snow. It's mental.
00:40 It's fine. We're fully dressed for it. Little dog, he's fully dressed for it,
00:46 but we're not going to stay out too long because who knows how long it's going to last, eh?
00:50 Well, while some people in Medway are enjoying the weather,
00:53 this blizzard and blast is expected to be short-lived,
00:57 with our taste of snow set to go by tomorrow.
01:00 Sadly, we're not set for snow for the rest of the week. This is just a very brief sort of
01:04 cold pool that's moving across the North Sea and then it'll be in the Atlantic by this time
01:11 tomorrow, sadly. But we can expect things to be a lot drier and a lot, well, colder than they have
01:18 been because recently it's really been quite mild. And of course, that means the mild, wet and sort
01:26 of gloomy, horrible mess. But tomorrow should be a lot better.
01:30 Although the snow may be short-lived,
01:33 motorists are still advised to stay cautious on the way home tonight.
01:36 Really take that extra care. Make sure you're a little bit more vigilant. Everybody knows
01:42 their routes back and we tend to take them for granted, but there could still be a few
01:48 slippy patches out there. There could still be some icy patches even. So where we've treated
01:53 all of the main roads, a lot of the rural roads, estate roads, etc, could still be quite slippery.
01:59 There could still be some residue of snow on some of those minor routes. What we've seen is snow in
02:05 particular throughout the Sevenoaks Way. We've seen it in North Kempfavisham Way as well. So
02:10 those rural roads will still be a bit slippery. So take, please, extra care on those.
02:17 With an amber cold health alert in place for the rest of the week
02:21 and temperatures dropping below freezing in some parts of the county,
02:24 the best way to stay safe is to stay warm. Oliver Leeders of SACS reporting for KMTV.
