00:00 Jordi Giovanteni and his crew are pioneers of the Dakar.
00:06 Last year already they were competing in their hydrogen-powered truck.
00:09 This year the Catalan team are part of Dakar Future Mission 1000.
00:14 And hydrogen is the option taken by Dutch team Rainbow Truck.
00:18 The idea behind their concept is to test a technology that could be used by normal vehicles.
00:24 Trucks, cars and bikes, electric bikes that certainly have the speed like the Arctic Leopards.
00:40 Or the BAT of Spanish team Dakar Eco Galicia.
00:47 Japan come in strength with the highest concept, a hydrogen SSV designed by the five major
00:53 car and bike companies of the nation because the future of the industry is linked to the Dakar.
00:58 Hydrogen, small mobility and engine technology, HICE.
01:10 HICE is a technical consortium to study about the hydrogen engine.
01:18 Just started this May 2023 in Japan.
01:24 You can see this is a company composed of Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Toyota and Yamaha.
01:33 The reason why we want to go to Mission Mio is to better our engine and the storage system
01:40 using the highly stressed condition.
01:45 The HICE is not limited for the Japanese companies but we are open so we are always welcome anyone
01:51 to come together with us.
01:53 The Japanese have this mentality, that's to say to be open minded a little to say we're
02:01 not competing and we can be allies.
02:04 For a few months I've been interested in this project so I was called by Jean-Marc to be
02:13 a test driver and I gave my all to the project.
02:15 It's a Kawasaki 1000 motor that is used on a bike.
02:24 Performance is 150 horsepower with 200 neutron meters of torque.
02:33 It's not quite at the height of a T3 like those we see in the best classes of the Dakar
02:39 but this is the start to a new project with new technology.
02:43 We're not doing a competitive race car, we're first building a new technology in a race
02:48 car and that's already quite a challenge.
02:50 We have so many possibilities of technology and the hydrogen is one of them.
02:54 So hydrogen combustion is just injecting hydrogen instead of the petrol to burn inside of the
03:01 engine.
03:02 It's just a change or an injection with a different electronical system and hydrogen
03:08 compression in a tank that we put in the car.
03:11 Basically the combustion engine works in the same way but in terms of driving it's very
03:15 similar.
03:15 It's totally carbon neutral because as you know hydrogen combustion, hydrogen oxygen
03:29 just makes it to 8 to water so total carbon neutral from the fuel.
03:36 Our target is to make a realised hydrogen engine the solution for the carbon neutral
03:43 society in the future.
03:44 In Saudi Arabia you can have like almost zero degree in the atmosphere to the over 40 so
03:52 any kind of the condition we will face.
04:00 So we will update this engine every year by year and just at 24 Dakar is our start point.
04:09 And so far so good for the heist prototype, a car of Dakar future and the future of the
04:16 Dakar.
