Post Office scandal victim cries as she relives mental health breakdown. Source: Good Morning Britain, ITV
Transcript
00:00 It drove me so mad that I tried to commit suicide.
00:22 And you ended up in hospital?
00:23 Yeah.
00:24 And as we saw in the drama, you were given... things were so extreme with you.
00:29 Jess.
00:30 Are you alright?
00:31 Are you OK?
00:32 Jess, you honestly show such strength by speaking out and I can imagine your family is so proud
00:37 of you for doing that and the community as well will know the truth.
00:42 I find it unforgivable, unacceptable that the post office has not apologised to you
00:46 personally, that they put you through this.
00:48 I just want it all behind me now to be able to get on with our future.
00:53 One thing I did want to bring up as well is the fact that while I was in hospital, the
00:59 post office didn't believe that I was there so they sent their own doctors.
01:04 They thought you were lying about being in hospital?
01:06 Yeah.
01:07 And they sent their own doctors to check that you were there?
01:09 Yeah.
01:10 And then they examined me as well.
01:11 Oh.
01:12 Yeah.
01:13 So not only was I getting the electric shock treatments, I was also getting grief of them.
01:19 And these, I was going to ask you when we pause the interview, you're back in the saddle
01:23 now, this electric shock treatment, it's robbed you of memories.
01:27 Memory, yeah.
01:28 You've lost memories of your childhood.
01:29 Childhood, yeah.
01:30 And you're still on medication, aren't you?
01:32 Still on medication, yeah.
01:33 Quite substantial medication.
01:34 Yeah, yeah.
01:35 Well, we pray that you get the compensation and the apology that you so richly deserve.
01:40 Thank you.
01:41 And the irony is that we have this statement from the post office which says we're acutely
01:45 aware of the human cost of the scandal and both post office and government are continuing
01:50 to provide full and fair compensation.
01:51 But you haven't received a penny in compensation?
01:54 No.
01:55 It's just words, isn't it?
