The Department for Transport set a target for every motorway service station to have at least six rapid electric vehicle charging points by the end of twenty twenty three. According to the RAC, this ‘crucial’ target has been missed. Do you have an EV and struggle to find charge points? Or what’s putting you off making the switch?

00:00 Do you think that there needs to be put more effort into electric vehicles?
00:05 It's probably not best thought to be about electric vehicles. I am dead against them.
00:09 Absolutely dead against them. Everybody I know has got one.
00:12 I just look at them and think, "Oh my goodness, I'm not having one unless I'm going to be actually forced into it."
00:17 So I'm quite... don't care one way or the other. If there's any... if they haven't got enough, I really don't care.
00:23 Yeah, I understand if you've got an electric vehicle, it's a problem, it's an issue.
00:26 But I just don't like them and I feel people are being forced into it and they're going to regret it a bit like we were all forced into buying diesel vehicles about ten years ago,
00:34 challenged by the government. "Oh, you've got to go diesel, it's the best way," and then being reprimanded by it by bringing in the costs of the... and let it down.
00:42 Still got a bit concerned about range anxiety, I think. I'd be worried.
00:47 At least when you've got a petrol car, you can see the fuel going down and you know any filling station, you can just fill up and that's fine.
00:53 I'd be a bit worried going down the motorway if suddenly, you know, I lost my charge and then...
00:58 So, early days, I think, for me, is where I'm concerned about electric cars.
01:02 It's hard for that technology to keep up with the demand. I think it's a good thing in the sense that we're moving away from fossil fuels.
01:11 I think we also need to revolutionise the culture of how people travel.
01:15 And if we get a hold of public transport and trains, we could completely revolutionise that.
01:21 I don't have an electric car. I do have a petrol-driven car, which I don't use very much at the moment.
01:28 But, like, I'm interested in using more public transport. But, no, I'm not concerned by that.
01:35 Well, I am concerned, but for other people's benefit, that I'm not affected by it.
01:41 I'm thinking of buying a new car in the next two years. I'd probably go for a hybrid.
01:46 I've got an old diesel, so that really does need to go. It's an expensive investment.
01:51 I'd probably need to do my research before making any big decisions.
01:55 I'm not massively educated in that area. I think electric vehicles are great.
02:01 What's not to like? But, again, I'm not an expert. It seems like it's a good idea.
02:06 It seems like it's better for the environment. Obviously, if they were cheaper, even better.
02:10 Maybe just change their habits. Instead of driving their car all the time, perhaps just drive their car when it's extremely necessary to commute to areas that it's hard to get to.
02:21 And the areas that you can easily get to, you could swap to trains, trams, instead of using the car.
02:29 I'm not in favour of electric vehicles. I don't think they have the infrastructure to cope with them yet.
02:35 Also, the after sales, I don't think the depreciation on them, I think it's a no-no just yet.
02:44 Ways of making improvements, that's what people are looking at.
02:49 Because if you say electric is the future, then I think all of us should be on deck to make sure we achieve that.
02:57 And since we're kind of lacking in a way, we need to devote more effort.
