00:00 Good afternoon everyone, this is Charles from the Yorkshire Union Post here in Beeston across
00:29 Flats Park where there's been a shooting last night and police are here investigating following
00:42 the shooting last night across Flats Park. So I'm trying to give you an impression of
00:48 where we are. The cordon's going all the way down, all the way through the park covering
00:53 up a pathway going right through the centre of the park here in Beeston. Just for those
00:59 joining us here, this is Charles from the Yorkshire Union Post here in across Flats
01:05 Park in Beeston where there has been a shooting last night, that's Wednesday evening. Investigations
01:13 are currently ongoing. We have had a statement from West Yorkshire Police which I'll read
01:19 to you now. I'm just trying to get as much in as I can. Police are appealing for information
01:24 following a firearms discharge in Leeds at 9.31pm yesterday. Police received a report
01:32 from the ambulance service that a man had been shot in the cross Flats area. Armed officers
01:37 were deployed to the area and found a 27-year-old man with a wound to his leg. He was taken
01:42 to hospital for treatment to his injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening.
01:47 Inquiries suggest a discharge occurred in cross Flats Park earlier in the evening and
01:51 a scene is in place for forensic examinations. So as I said, there is a police scene ongoing
01:59 here which I'll show to you now. So you've got a better idea of the work that's going
02:06 on. So there's cordon stretching from here, from Preston Place, I believe it's called.
02:18 Just checking my notes, if you can bear with me. Preston Parade, I beg your pardon. So
02:33 there's a cordon coming all the way from the top of Preston Parade at the top of here,
02:44 cross Flats Park. Heading down through the park, covering this pathway. There's police
02:56 officers at various points along the cordon, stopping people, walkers and families who
03:04 have popped into the park this afternoon for a walk. A lot of people asking what's happening
03:09 as well. A lot of shock and surprise at the news. A lot of residents saying that this
03:17 is a renowned area for anti-social behaviour as well, along this pathway going through
03:26 cross Flats Park. So I've been told since I've been here for the last hour or so. There's
03:32 a few more people joining us now. We have got a live blog on the go regarding this incident
03:40 which is on the Yorkshire Union Post website. For anyone just joining us, we're here in
03:46 cross Flats Park in the Beeson area where there's been a reported shooting on Wednesday
03:52 evening. It was reported to police by ambulance services at half nine last night. The 27 year
04:04 old man in question has been taken to hospital with injuries to his leg which are serious
04:11 but not life threatening. So as I say I'm just having a walk down here alongside the
04:22 cordon just to give you an impression of how long it is. It's stretching right through
04:29 the middle of the park today. Police at various points along it just telling people to keep
04:41 going, go a different direction or avoid it if they can because there's investigation
04:48 work ongoing this afternoon. I'll just turn around as well to show you the size of the
04:58 park here in Beeson. Really big sort of open green space for people but like I say I've
05:04 spoke to some of the residents who were really shocked by the news this afternoon but say
05:09 that this is renowned as a spot and this sort of path along here is a spot for antisocial
05:18 behaviour. So as I said we do have a live blog on the go on the Yorkshire Evening Post
05:27 website as well where we've been putting up reaction and updates about this incident.
05:36 There's a few more pictures on there as well but just before I get off I'm going to re-read
05:48 the West Yorkshire Police statement about this ongoing incident. If you can just bear
05:56 with me I'll turn the camera around as well. So we've got some people asking what's happening
05:59 so yeah like I say I'll just read the final read the statement from West Yorkshire Police
06:05 here about this ongoing investigation. Bear with me one second. Here we go. Police are
06:15 appealing for information following a firearms discharge in Leeds at 9.31pm yesterday, that's
06:21 Wednesday evening. Police received a report from the ambulance service that a man had
06:25 been shot in the Cross Flats area, so that's Cross Flats here in Beeston. Armed officers
06:31 were deployed to the area and found a 27 year old man with a wound to his leg. He was taken
06:36 to hospital for treatment to his injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.
06:41 Inquiries suggest the discharge occurred in Cross Flats Park earlier in the evening and
06:45 the scene is in place for forensic examination. So just so you've got a better view of where
06:52 we are, those of you just joining us on this Facebook live here, we're just here at Cross
06:59 Flats Park in the Beeston area where the cordon is going up right through the middle of the
07:09 park. There's officers stood along various points along it and then right up there at
07:17 the top which is where I started the video there's a cordon by Preston, I keep forgetting
07:24 the name, sorry I wanted to say Preston Palace but I think that's wrong. But yeah it seemed
07:32 like the majority of the work and investigations were going on up there by police. Preston
07:49 Parade, there we go not Preston Palace. So as I said this is an area renowned by residents,
07:59 residents say it's renowned for anti-social behaviour, there's often groups of people
08:06 sat around on the park benches causing disturbance. Yeah it's a really large wide open green space
08:17 here in the middle of Beeston and yeah just one final look around the area. As I said
08:33 we do have a live blog on the Yorkshire Union Post website as well where we'll keep all
08:40 the updates that we get on there. There's been no mention of any arrests by West Yorkshire
08:45 Police currently but any update we get we'll be sure to put that in the blog and update
08:52 the website as well. So thank you for joining me, cheers.
