00:00 As soon as you say Sterling, she starts laughing, does these big tail wags, and comes right to the door.
00:07 Sterling! Hi!
00:09 My name is Jennifer Patton, and this is Sterling's story for GeoBeats.
00:13 Hi, baby!
00:15 Sterling is very much one of my vocal happy foxes.
00:19 Hi, baby! You are so happy.
00:22 Come here!
00:24 Come here, baby girl.
00:27 Sterling has a companion named Pop.
00:30 Hi, Pop.
00:32 Hi.
00:34 She is 100% the extrovert.
00:37 She loves to greet you, she loves attention, she likes to play, she likes new people, she likes human interaction.
00:43 Hi, baby girl.
00:45 While Pop is the introvert, who would much rather stay at home, read with a quiet book, you know, candlelight dinner type situation.
00:52 It's kind of funny, when she gets really excited and greets new people, he yells at her.
00:57 And is like, "You're ruining the vibe here."
00:59 Hi, Pop.
01:00 "I just wanted a chill evening, and here you are welcoming people into our house."
01:04 Hi, Pop.
01:06 Good morning, Pop.
01:07 So, they're kind of the opposite of traps, but they get along really, really well, and they are totally bonded.
01:13 Oh, you chased him away.
01:14 Sterling came to us as an owner-surrender twice.
01:18 I first met Sterling summer of 2021.
01:23 She came to us as a kid.
01:25 Hi, baby girl.
01:28 And what happened was somebody was reading boxes, and she was the product of that.
01:35 And she was not sold, and the person did not want her anymore.
01:39 She's so excited.
01:41 You can draw yourself.
01:43 So, they dumped her out of that office.
01:45 Do you see you?
01:46 The veterinarian decided that she would probably be best in a place like ours, a sanctuary, where she can get the proper attention and all of those things that come with caring for a fox.

02:07 I am the founder of Fox's Journey Sanctuary, located here in Michigan.
02:12 Oh, ask her.
02:13 This is my full-time job, and it doesn't really stop me.
02:16 [Indistinct]
02:19 I am also a mom, so I have two kids.
02:22 I grew up in a wooded area here in Michigan, and we used to see lots of wild foxes when I was younger.
02:28 [Squealing]
02:30 And then I just always loved them and loved what they represent.
02:34 They're a little bit mischievous, but they're also very, very smart.
02:37 My bond with Sterling, because I was able to bond with her as a kid when she first came to me, is pretty strong.
02:45 Good girl.
02:46 [Squealing]
02:47 Very, very happy, jiggly self with me.
02:50 We are friends.
02:51 Good girl.
02:52 Good girl.
02:54 [Laughing]
02:55 Hey, Buck.
