00:25 Hello everyone, I am Matsuda, I am in charge of the vice chairman of HICE.
00:30 HICE is a technical consortium to study about the hydrogen engine, just started this May 2023 in Japan.
00:40 You can see this is a company composed of Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Toyota and Yamaha.
00:51 The reason why we want to go to Mission MIR is to better our engine and the storage system using the highly stressed condition.
01:00 I am Masaki Ichikawa, project sub-leader of this HICE Dakar project.
01:07 In Japan, Toyota shows something in the possibility of the hydrogen combustion engine.
01:13 Automotive manufacturers are thinking, hey, we maybe work together to research the basic study and then the consortium started.
01:25 Toyota is mainly in charge of the storage system inside the car and also car work is done by the overdrive.
01:33 We started to design this in April or May and now we are in early December and the car is running.
01:43 We are very happy with the consortium and it is fabulous to work together.
01:47 HICE is not limited to Japanese companies but we are open, so we are always welcome anyone to come together with us.
01:56 Japanese people have this mentality, to open up the mind and say that our competitors but also our allies.
02:05 I have been interested in this project for a few months and I was called by Jean-Marc to be the test driver and try to help the project.
02:22 It is a Kawasaki 1000 engine which is used on a motorcycle.
02:26 Performance, we are at 150 horsepower with 200 Nm of torque.
02:35 It is not yet the peak of a T3 as we see them now in the light category in Dakar, but it is the culmination of a new project, a new technology.
02:44 We do not make a performing racing car, we already make a new technology in a racing car. It is already a big challenge.
02:51 We have so many possibilities of technology and hydrogen is one of them.
02:55 Hydrogen combustion is just injecting hydrogen instead of petrol to burn inside of the engine.
03:03 It is just a change of injectors with different electronics and hydrogen compression in the bottles that we load in the car.
03:12 The combustion engine works in the same way, so the feeling of driving is very similar.
03:20 It is totally carbon neutral because as you know hydrogen combustion, hydrogen oxygen just make it to 8 to water, so total carbon neutral from the fuel.
03:38 Our target is to make a realised hydrogen engine the solution for the carbon neutral society in the future.
03:46 In Saudi Arabia you can have like almost 0 degree in atmosphere to the over 40, so any kind of the condition we will face.
03:59 We are looking for reliability, to know how to make a special part for the mission 1000 Dakar.
04:06 We know that we have to make between 70 and 100 km per day, so that is our target.
04:11 We will update this engine every year by year and just at 24 Dakar is our start point.
