Klopp on Liverpool's counter press in 4-2 Newcastle win as Salah departs
Transcript
00:00 That was a nice response, thank you very much.
00:04 No, it was good.
00:07 Everyone go first, no? Chris?
00:27 Jürgen, Mo Salah, a player who missed a penalty in the first half,
00:34 or comes out and puts on that goal in the second half, can you make it?
00:38 Yeah. Nobody should now be really surprised that Mo can change a game,
00:47 can improve in a game and all these kinds of things,
00:50 because he did it hundreds of times.
00:53 But it's just a really good example. The more goals you have,
00:57 the more you are used to missing chances, even when it's a penalty,
01:01 and the more you just understand what you have to do, keep going,
01:05 and if necessary, but very often is the case, keep improving,
01:09 using the situations better, and that was what Mo did.
01:13 Because I got asked that question plenty of times,
01:16 when we talk about Mo and again two goals, and then Darwin didn't score,
01:19 but to be honest, the situation of the game,
01:21 when you brought the game in the right direction, was the first goal of Mo.
01:25 When Darwin squares that ball, I would say everybody in the stadium,
01:29 you involved, would have tried to hammer that ball through the goalie,
01:33 just to make it happen.
01:35 And he squares that ball and it was the one-nil, right?
01:39 Yeah. So, incredible.
01:42 Yeah, super game, from start to finish, with 10 minutes in the first half,
01:49 OK, after 35 minutes, disallowed goal, missed the pen,
01:55 super high intensity, level dropped slightly,
02:00 got into the second half and started pretty much there,
02:05 but we finished after 35 minutes, scored the first, relieved too big, one-all.
02:11 Scored the second, scored the third, relieved too big, 3-2.
02:16 And I said a couple of times, "I like it really",
02:21 Pep came to me and said, "We need to bring Maka."
02:24 I think it was before the 3-2, I'm not sure, when Maka came,
02:27 "We need his passes."
02:29 Yeah, and then Maka came and passed the ball to Djoko.
02:35 So, obviously again, a really good game from start to finish,
02:39 and again, if you have these options to bring on, that's obviously pretty helpful.
02:45 I loved the game, I loved the atmosphere, everything was perfect,
02:51 besides the goals, obviously we conceded,
02:53 you could see it in Ali's face, especially that he didn't like that fact.
02:56 But we take that for tonight.
02:59 Yeah, keep going.
03:02 Lots of really good individual performances as well tonight,
03:09 you mentioned Mo, I thought Curtis Jones in particular,
03:15 the way he hit the game together, and how to get you on the front foot,
03:20 that was very impressive.
03:22 Special game from Curtis, to be honest.
03:25 His high press, his counter-press, we all know how good a player Curtis is,
03:31 he's technically incredibly skilled,
03:34 but he finds more and more direction in his dribbling,
03:37 he gets better out of situations, and his counter-pressing is meanwhile...
03:41 He sets the level, actually, how it should look.
03:47 Really happy with that, and he keeps every play in the game.
03:51 So, as I said, the counter-pressing we played today was absolutely exceptional.
03:57 It was a school video, we have to show it if we want to do it.
04:01 So, a lot of times people tell me that my behaviour is not great
04:06 and it's not good for grass-roots football,
04:08 OK, maybe the grass-roots team want to play counter-press
04:10 then watch the video of that game, so that is really helpful.
04:13 Yeah, you're right, so many good performances,
04:17 I cannot actually remember a bad one, to be honest, they were all really good.
04:22 But we had to be, because in the situations when we were not at 100 per cent,
04:28 you could immediately see the new cast was there,
04:30 but we made it really tricky for them tonight,
04:32 and it was a fully deserved three points.
04:36 Jürgen, I don't know if you pay so much emphasis on expected goals stats,
04:42 but that was the highest expected goal taken by any team ever in a Premier League game.
04:47 34 shots, 15 on target, what does that say to you?
04:52 I didn't have to look at the stats, because I saw it before, it was really special.
04:57 It was Dubrovka, but it was our side as well,
05:05 and that's why we needed these...
05:08 How I said, there were moments when we forced it,
05:12 when the technique was not great, but then there was a moment when Dubrovka had a top save,
05:17 and we scored twice, we squared the ball and put it in the empty goal,
05:23 so we didn't stop, that's the most important thing.
05:27 And I sat here a few weeks ago and spoke about the atmosphere.
05:34 Tonight's atmosphere was absolutely exceptional,
05:37 and how we all took together these missed chances, that's how the atmosphere is.
05:43 That's just how it is, because it was not like, "Oh, my God, what are they doing?"
05:47 And I would understand that in moments, but everybody was just really on fire,
05:52 "We go again, we go again, we go again," and we did.
05:56 We scored four goals, which is already an outstanding number.
06:00 Yeah, all good.
06:04 We wanted to take him off, it was the plan, but unfortunately it was a minute late,
06:17 because in the last situation he felt the arm strength,
06:22 and now we don't know the extent of it, obviously, so we have to wait.
06:26 Well done.
06:29 Thank you.
06:31 Good afternoon, yeah?
06:32 Good afternoon.
