00:00 When I am performing, I am nothing but free.

00:12 I think we can all agree that Beyonce and Taylor Swift are certified superstars.
00:16 Between their wildly successful world tours and respective concert films, they are absolutely killing it right now.

00:25 Beyonce's Renaissance Tour film has finally hit theaters, making it the second concert film to hit in 2023.
00:32 Taylor Swift's The Heiress Tour premiered in mid-October and took the box office by storms.
00:38 (music)
00:41 So naturally, people are wondering, how will Beyonce's film perform compared to Taylor Swift's?
00:46 I mean, Taylor really set the bar high with the most successful concert film of all time.
00:51 That is absolutely wild, but we do know, Beyonce brings it every time.
00:56 It's impossible to not realize how fast it's going when you are looking through the eyes of your children.
01:01 Which is exactly why she has already nabbed the number one spot at the domestic box office this opening weekend.
01:07 It's the second number one concert film in 2023.
01:10 However, Renaissance opening didn't come close to Taylor Swift's Heiress.
01:14 So to put it in perspective, The Heiress Tour earned a domestic opening of $92.8 million.
01:21 Where Renaissance earned $21 million.
01:23 (music)
01:27 Regardless, it's still an impressive and strong debut.
01:30 Especially given that it opened on a historically slow box office weekend.
01:34 So, this is the first time a film has opened with more than $20 million on this weekend since 2003.
01:41 Which was The Last Samurai starring Tom Cruise.
01:43 But why is the Renaissance film not projected to beat out The Heiress Tour film?
01:47 Of course, the two have some of the most passionate and dedicated fans.
01:51 But there are many factors at play here.
01:53 Taylor Swift certainly had more hype going into it.
01:56 I just think that the sheer difficulty to score tickets to The Heiress Tour played a big part.
02:01 The film gave us unlucky fans a chance to also experience the magic.
02:05 It was like being at a concert, but in a movie theater.
02:07 Seriously, everyone was singing and dancing together the entire time.
02:11 So it almost gave you a sense of community.
02:12 It was a whole experience.
02:13 But they're two different types of concert films.
02:16 Like I said, Taylor's is purely a concert on the big screen.
02:19 From start to finish.
02:20 Which might appeal more to some people than Beyoncé's more documentary style film
02:24 that delves into her behind the scenes journey while on tour.
02:28 And while that is certainly still entertaining,
02:29 it doesn't exactly allow for that same type of concert experience as The Heiress Tour.
02:34 I just want to also add that regardless of box office numbers,
02:37 both women have made history with their incredible tours.
02:40 The Heiress Tour film broke the record for the biggest debut of a concert film ever.
02:44 But Beyoncé's Renaissance World Tour that wrapped back in October
02:48 became the highest grossing tour by a female artist in history.
02:52 So yes, it's true.
02:53 Taylor has yet to wrap her world tour.
02:55 So she could take that number one spot.
02:57 But for now, that crown goes to Beyoncé.
02:59 And what I love is that although there's been endless comparisons
03:02 drawn between the two powerhouses,
03:04 Beyoncé and Taylor have been nothing but supportive with each other.
03:08 With each even attending the premieres of their respective films.
03:11 Women supporting women.
03:12 We love to see it.
03:14 And hey, the beauty about this box office battle
03:16 is that you're able to go and watch both films if you'd like.
03:19 So you really don't have to pick a side.
03:21 And besides, I think it's worth celebrating rather than comparing.
03:23 Thanks for watching everybody.
