00:00 We've seen some gorgeous yachts, but the 100-foot History Supreme takes the gold-encrusted
00:06 keg.
00:07 Stuart Hughes, a British supplier of high-end gadgets, took a detour from his work as an
00:13 iPad alchemist to design the $4.8 billion Superyacht, which is decked out in platinum
00:19 and gold from bow to stern.
00:22 So today let's take a look inside the $4.8 billion History Supreme Megayacht.
00:29 Without further ado, let's get into it.
00:32 Even in this atmosphere, however, the 98.4-foot History Supreme stands out.
00:39 Even 11 years after it was sold to a Malaysian businessman, this superyacht is thought to
00:45 be the most costly in the world.
00:48 $4.8 billion was the ultimate figure.
00:52 According to reports, Malaysia's richest man, Robert Kwok, is the proud owner of this
00:58 exorbitantly costly vessel, which he commissioned from luxury jeweler and designer Stuart Hughes
01:05 in 2011.
01:07 Even with a net worth of $11.8 billion as of 2022, that's a lot of money to spend on
01:14 a boat.
01:15 Hughes made the employment announcement public, which prompted it to be covered by various
01:20 major media sites in the UK and Australia.
01:24 He never declared Kwok was the buyer explicitly, but he made plenty of suggestions that he
01:30 was.
01:31 He also went into detail about the yacht, including why it was so pricey, and it had
01:36 nothing to do with on-board technology, comforts, performance or even fuel efficiency.
01:43 History Supreme, it turns out, was built to be the most luxurious piece of naval architecture
01:49 ever built.
01:50 It is actually encased in solid gold and platinum, features valuable stones in the design, and,
01:58 depending on who you believe, comes with a number of other famous Hughes inventions,
02:03 some more ridiculous than others.
02:07 Liverpool-based Hughes is most known for transforming iPads and iPhones into high-end products by
02:13 wrapping them in gold or the finest leathers and adorning them with diamonds.
02:19 His most renowned achievement is a 500-diamond iPhone 4 with two interchangeable ones on
02:26 the home button, in case you get bored, we assume.
02:29 It is valued at $6.4 million and comes with the History Supreme, according to some accounts.
02:37 The Di Amalfi Limoncello Supreme, a $35 million luxury liquor bottle with an 18.5-carat diamond,
02:45 is another piece of work by the designer and jeweler offered with the superyacht, because
02:51 booze in a standard bottle is never good enough.
02:55 A panoramic wall aquarium made of solid 24-carat gold weighing roughly 150 pounds is also on
03:03 display.
03:04 In fact, the entire vessel is made of solid gold, weighing around 220,463 pounds.
03:12 The deck, the eating area, the rails and anchor, and the kitchenware are all covered in gold.
03:19 The upper deck stairwell is supposed to be composed of solid gold.
03:25 Platinum is also prominently used, particularly in the chef's kitchen and the master suite,
03:30 which also has a meteoric stone wall and a sculpture fashioned of a real T-Rex dinosaur
03:36 bone from Arizona.
03:39 If you're curious, the bone alone is worth around $89,000.
03:44 Hughes claimed that completing History Supreme took him three years and that he received
03:50 the job when a buddy recommended it to him.
03:53 He admitted that he had never met the buyer, but said he would have liked to, perhaps out
03:58 of curiosity about the type of man who would invest so much money in such a luxurious boat.
04:05 You may have observed that, as is customary with these type of announcements, there was
04:10 no mention of the superyacht's performance or other attributes.
04:15 Despite the precise nature of the features provided, they appeared to be a random assortment
04:20 of things mentioned to justify such an exorbitant price tag.
04:25 Even more absurd than the alleged payment of $4.8 billion for a yacht was the fact that
04:31 none of it was true.
04:33 When the news of History Supreme spread, many Hughes representatives confirmed the report's
04:38 truth to media publications, including emails to Business Insider.
04:44 Then there was complete stillness on their end.
04:47 For good reason.
04:49 History Supreme sounded like a ridiculous boat that not even a Bond villain would buy.
04:54 It was never real, never created, and it doesn't exist.
04:59 History Supreme is the biggest boating fraud in the industry, regardless of what Google
05:04 and some respectable yachting sites make you believe.
05:09 Is the History Supreme a Hoax?
05:13 The History Supreme yacht was designed by British designer Stuart Hughes, who has created
05:19 the world's most expensive suit, the world's most expensive iPhone, the world's most expensive
05:25 model vehicle, and a solid gold Rolls Royce Phantom, according to his website.
05:31 According to Jet Set Magazine, an anonymous Malaysian businessman, likely Robert Kwok,
05:37 pictured above, commissioned Hughes through a friend in his yachting circle.
05:42 Hughes never met the person for whom the yacht was intended, but was given complete creative
05:47 control over the design and construction of the ship.
05:51 It took three years to finish the project.
05:55 To add to the mystique of the History Supreme, some people do not believe it exists at all.
06:01 It was never real, it was never made, and no, it does not exist, according to Auto Evolution,
06:08 which also notes that the inside photos of the History Supreme on Hughes' website were
06:14 stolen from their site and reproduced without permission.
06:18 Money Inc. and Yacht Harbour both make the case that the entire story is a hoax, with
06:25 Money Inc. pointing out that Kwok deconstructed his Hong Kong mansion into several smaller
06:31 homes at one point to avoid an ostentatious display of wealth, making his commission of
06:37 the world's most luxurious yacht seem unlikely.
06:41 Furthermore, because Kwok is notorious for his secrecy, Hughes may have chosen him as
06:47 the alleged customer because he is difficult to reach and hence will not confirm or deny
06:53 the yacht's existence.
06:55 Hughes' website History Supreme section is still up and running.
07:00 Did the Eclipse Get Eclipsed?
07:03 The Eclipse held the title of the world's most luxury yacht prior to the History Supreme's
07:09 hypothetical existence.
07:11 It was purchased for $590 million in 2009 by Russian business magnate Roman Abramovic
07:19 and contains two helipads, a cinema theatre, a sports complex, its own mini-submarine and
07:26 a missile defence system, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.
07:31 Blom+Voss, a German shipbuilding business, designed it as a "huge palace on water".
07:38 According to Business Insider, the Eclipse was once available for commission for up to
07:43 30 guests and 75 crew members via Superyacht Monaco for $2 million per week for those who
07:50 wanted to try out such morally dubious power before committing.
07:56 On the other hand, the Azam has been the world's largest yacht since its completion in 2013,
08:02 with a length of 592 feet and 6 inches and a top speed of 30 knots.
08:10 According to Superyacht Fan, it was commissioned by United Arab Emirates President Khalifa
08:15 bin Sayyid bin Sultan Al Nahyan and features a sophisticated and luxurious interior.
08:24 So there you have it.
