00:55 Today is a big dream come true, not only for Mara,
01:14 but also for Rwanda, and also for Africa.
01:18 We realized a few years ago that to create
01:21 a true positive social impact on our continent
01:25 and in emerging markets in general,
01:28 we need to have high quality and affordable smartphones.
01:32 That as Africa, we don't manufacture anything.
01:37 We assemble in a few countries here and there,
01:40 but we do not manufacture.
01:42 We are a true consumer, but not a producer.
01:46 So that's when we came up with the plan of Mara phones.
01:51 We mentioned it to a few people, and quite a few people
01:54 told us we were crazy and this was not doable.
01:57 I was reflecting yesterday, Your Excellency, and 20,
02:00 25 years ago when I was flying from Rwanda
02:03 to the rest of the world, family members around the world
02:06 used to ask me to come with what Rwanda was pretty well
02:09 known for at that time, 20, 25 years ago, which
02:12 was Maracuja, passion fruit, Maracuja.
02:16 So I was just reflecting yesterday
02:19 that it's quite cool that we're not only
02:21 going to be able to take Maracuja,
02:24 but we're also going to be able to take from Maracuja
02:26 to Mara phones.
02:27 We remember two people's words in our case.
02:33 One was His Excellency's words that it's enough of people
02:37 writing our story for us.
02:39 It's time we write our own story.
02:42 And the second was my spiritual leader,
02:45 Morari Bapu, who said if people are not
02:48 laughing at your dreams, that means
02:51 your dreams are not big enough.
02:54 So with that in mind, and our true belief in Africa,
02:58 particularly Rwanda, we made this happen.
03:02 We are so happy, so delighted that all of you
03:05 have joined us to witness this auspicious occasion.
03:09 Long live Your Excellency, President Kagame,
03:13 long live people of Rwanda, and don't forget Rwanda itself.
03:19 God bless us all.
03:21 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
03:27 This is the path Rwanda has chosen for our development.
03:34 The investment by Mara phones group
03:38 is therefore in perfect harmony with our focus on science
03:46 and technology as the key drivers
03:51 of our economic transformation.
03:56 The Mara group has shown that it shares
04:00 our vision for Rwanda's development
04:03 and is prepared to play a part in it.
04:09 I am pleased that Mara is committed to partnering
04:14 with Rwanda's educational and training institutions
04:20 to ensure that workers acquire the necessary skills
04:28 to succeed.
04:31 In Rwanda, we have Irembo, which is already
04:42 the citizens' primary gateway for many public services.
04:51 And integration of Irembo into Mara phones
04:56 is an innovative feature.
05:00 The introduction of Mara phones will put smartphone ownership
05:06 within reach of more Rwandans.
05:13 The product is backed by a warranty,
05:18 and the price can be paid in installments over two years.
05:26 I think they have tried to make it as simple and possible
05:37 to Rwandans as they could.
05:40 In particular, I thank Mara chairman, Jagdish,
05:48 and the CEO, Ashish, for choosing
05:53 to establish this plant in Rwanda,
06:00 our country and their country.
