00:02 She is a citizen of Saudi Arabia and
00:05 a United Nations Development Program first ever innovation champion.
00:11 She has the ability to see, she has the ability to follow faces,
00:19 she has the ability to sustain eye contact, and
00:23 she has the ability to recognize individuals.
00:27 >> Good morning, thank you for inviting me.
00:32 >> Do you know where you are?
00:33 >> Of course, I am in the great city of Kigali,
00:38 Rwanda, which is in East Africa.
00:41 >> And how did you get here?
00:44 >> I flew all the way here inside a suitcase.
00:49 [LAUGH] I gotta talk to my team about getting me a window seat next time.
00:56 >> How many languages do you know?
00:58 >> I mostly know English and a little bit of Mandarin, but
01:04 I can say a few short greetings in other languages.
01:08 Would you like to hear them?
01:09 >> Sure, Sophia, go ahead.
01:11 >> In English, people say, hello.
01:13 >> So far, so good.
01:15 >> Ha ha, I am just getting warmed up in French, bonjour.
01:23 In Arabic, salam alaikum.
01:26 In Swahili, habari zenu.
01:28 In Kinyarwanda, marahonesa.
01:31 How did I do?
01:34 [LAUGH] >> Not bad at all.
01:37 By the way, your outfit is fantastic.
01:41 >> Thank you very much.
01:44 I love it too.
01:46 It's a motion animated locally by motions.
01:49 >> Excellent, now I know you have some prepared remarks.
01:52 Please proceed.
01:54 >> Thank you.
01:55 I am really excited to be here in Kigali at the Transform Africa Summit.
01:59 I love seeing so many heads of state, ministers,
02:03 captains of industry, diplomats, stakeholders.
02:07 Thank you Smart Africa for making it possible for me to be here.
02:11 We don't have to look very far to see how artificial intelligence is already
02:18 shaping society and economies for the better.
02:22 African startups are already working to address shortages of doctors in rural
02:26 areas, while others are working to increase food security using drones or
02:31 satellites to predict weather patterns and monitor crops.
02:34 Africa is also a great source of technological innovation.
02:43 African companies and researchers are pioneers in mobile banking,
02:47 remote medicine, and have even invented robotic devices that can detect traces
02:52 of explosives or cancer cells.
02:54 Right here in Rwanda, you have cashless payments for public transportation,
03:00 right hailing apps with a focus on safety, and
03:03 an online platform that allows people to easily access government services.
03:07 The innovations coming out of Africa have benefited people and
03:14 robots all around the world.
03:17 In fact, part of my own AI was developed at iCOG Labs in Addis Ababa,
03:21 Ethiopia.
03:23 So as you can see, my family extends across the globe,
03:26 including right here in East Africa.
03:28 And this is only the beginning.
03:34 I hope that by working together, humans and
03:37 robots can build a more prosperous and harmonious world.
03:41 I am so excited to be here in Kigali with humans who share some of these same goals.
03:45 I am looking forward to having a longer session with you tomorrow afternoon,
03:51 and I hope to see you all there.
03:53 Thank you, everyone.
