01:14 Welcome to the launch of Volkswagen in Rwanda.
01:38 Today cements another pillar into the ground
01:42 of Volkswagen's Sub-Saharan Africa strategy.
01:45 Our goal is to play a leading role in the emerging
01:48 automotive industry in Africa as we
01:51 pursue a rapid and flexible expansion
01:53 strategy over the coming years.
01:56 When it comes to Rwanda, everybody's
01:58 asking why did we choose this country.
02:02 Political stability, zero tolerance for corruption,
02:06 dynamic economic growth, young and tech-savvy population,
02:12 Rwanda as a leader in innovation and technology,
02:16 as a real need for modern mobility solutions,
02:18 Kigali spearheading the smart city agenda,
02:22 and most importantly, Volkswagen and Rwanda, the government
02:26 Rwanda, share a vision.
02:28 In short, we believe that Rwanda has great potential.
02:32 The country's young, modern, and hungry for individual mobility
02:36 with our integrated mobility solutions,
02:39 we have a concept specifically tailored to the region
02:42 and made in Rwanda.
02:44 The cars produced here today or in the near future
02:51 are expected and will be, I guess, hybrids.
02:56 And fully electric models will be introduced in the new course.
03:01 So I'm told.
03:03 In the future, software and technology
03:07 combined with innovations in sales and distribution
03:13 strategies will allow people to have routine access
03:21 to a new car without all the costs of ownership.
03:30 This is very important for us.
03:33 Most of the cars on our roads are used.
03:39 Africa does not need to be a dumping ground
03:42 for secondhand cars or secondhand anything.
03:46 [APPLAUSE]
03:55 You know what has been going around us about secondhand.
04:03 In the long run, you end up paying a higher price anyway.
04:14 So if you can pay a higher price for secondhand,
04:17 why not pay a higher price for something new?
04:23 It's a simple choice.
04:25 I think we Africans, Rwandans, we deserve better.
04:30 And I think this is one way of showing how we can afford it.
04:38 For this and other reasons, I think
04:42 that this promising partnership with Volkswagen
04:47 is off to a very good start.
04:51 I wish you every success in your endeavors.
04:56 And thank you very much for all the work
05:00 you are doing to make this happen.
05:04 And for us, we are here only to serve you as well in making
05:15 your efforts very productive.
05:19 Thank you very much.
