00:13 Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen,
00:39 fellow filmmakers, it is our pleasure
00:42 to welcome you all to the Rwanda International Film
00:45 Festival 2016.
00:48 We are so humbled to have you among the supporters
00:50 of Hollywood, as you're commonly known around the world.
00:55 This is our 12th edition, and each year
00:57 brings the Rwanda Film Festival more excitement, but also
01:02 challenges.
01:04 This being the reason why the film festival is still
01:08 alive and kicking you present.
01:12 I would like to proudly open the 12th edition
01:16 of the Rwanda Film Festival.
01:18 Thank you very much for coming.
01:19 [APPLAUSE]
01:23 We're going to show two films from the two workshops
01:28 that we have done at Kwajalein Film Institute.
01:31 We've been collaborating with the Dutch Film Academy,
01:36 so we've had German mentors coming to mentor us
01:40 at the Dutch Film Institute.

03:08 I grew up on a farm in the Rwanda region of Kenya,
03:13 surrounded daily by animals.
03:18 But it was their house that I've left
03:20 the deepest of memories in.
03:23 Houses were everywhere.
03:25 I would smell them when I woke up.
03:29 I would smell them when I came home from school.
03:32 I'd even smell them when my father--

05:34 I was basically selected as a package,
05:37 I believe, from the Pan-African Film Festival in Los Angeles.
05:41 So it was a part of a film that they submitted
05:45 for the festival, and my film was selected.
05:48 It actually just came from London, and now it's here.
05:50 So I'm so, so, so excited to be here.
05:55 I'm taking part to this festival this year.
05:59 I'm going to be introducing my film on Monday,
06:02 a documentary called Rwanda Art, which
06:05 is a feature documentary about the creative scene in Rwanda.
06:10 So through dance, music, fashion, and art,
06:13 you see the evolution of the scene,
06:16 and you see the young people behind it.
06:19 Because I think that it's all about the people
06:22 that make the place.
