00:02 >> What's up, coach?
00:03 >> Hello.
00:04 [BLANK_AUDIO]
00:06 >> Good, we're good?
00:09 First and foremost, happy holidays.
00:10 How's practice been?
00:11 I think you guys are getting ready to get after it.
00:12 >> Happy holidays.
00:14 Practice has been good.
00:15 I think we've had two really good practices, or three good practices.
00:20 But it's been great.
00:23 The guys are excited to play in a bowl game like the Capital One Orange Bowl,
00:27 playing against a very good opponent in Florida State, and very good defense.
00:33 So we know we got our work cut out, and for us to play well,
00:36 we've got to prepare the right way.
00:37 And our guys have done a great job preparing and getting ready for this game.
00:40 >> How did Carson let you know he's coming back, and what was your reaction to it?
00:44 >> Well, obviously excited for the news.
00:47 But we had been talking since the last ball game about certain things.
00:53 And at the end of the day, it was getting him the information that he needed to make
00:56 the decision, and it wasn't some big announcement.
01:00 It was kind of a combination of things leading up to that point.
01:04 But my conversations with Carson mainly about still preparing and
01:09 finishing the right way this season.
01:11 That was his decision, family decision that he made.
01:15 I let him know I'm his coach, and
01:17 go support him any way possible that he needs.
01:19 And we're here, let's get ready to play our best and
01:23 go out and finish this season the right way against Florida State.
01:26 >> If this is Brock's last game, how will you remember him, Mr. Bowers?
01:29 >> [LAUGH] As special, special player,
01:32 guy that comes out every single day, doesn't say anything,
01:38 just goes to work, the ultimate teammate, the ultimate competitor.
01:43 Kind of a jack of all trades, can do everything.
01:47 He can block, he can run, he can catch.
01:50 We didn't have him throw any, but I'm sure if we asked him to throw the ball,
01:52 he could.
01:53 But a joy to coach, just a pleasure to coach.
01:58 And lucky to have that one year where I got to be part of coaching him and
02:03 see him do something on that football field and how he affects our football team.
02:08 >> Yeah, Coach, when we just talked to Coach Fuller,
02:09 he mentioned you guys as third down efficiency rates.
02:12 I believe you're second in the country in conversion rate on third down.
02:14 What was the key this year to being so great on third down?
02:17 >> They're fourth in the country on third down defense.
02:20 So we got our work cut out against these guys.
02:23 But I think it's the preparation, putting the plan together.
02:30 Coach McClendon does a great job kind of presenting our third down package.
02:34 And we decide what we wanna run as a staff, but he heads that up.
02:38 We present that to our players.
02:40 And I personally think it has a lot to do with the way we practice.
02:45 Coach Smart makes sure we have the best looks possible when we're practicing
02:49 third downs and some guys that are rushing for our defense.
02:53 When we're going scout team, Coach Smart brings them over and
02:56 practices against us in our third down period,
02:59 which I think that puts a lot of stress on us in practice.
03:02 We see fast looks in practice.
03:04 So I think when the game comes, things slow down for us.
03:07 We protected well, Carson gets rid of the ball quickly.
03:12 He's accurate when he throws the ball.
03:14 And then I don't know what, later in the season,
03:19 I looked and I don't know what it is now, but our third down,
03:23 I don't know what to say, avoidance I think is low.
03:26 But our distance to go, I think is not very high.
03:30 I think it might be five yards or less, which gives you a better chance
03:33 to be successful.
03:36 Ironically, in the last game, we weren't as good on third down and
03:39 they were short yardage third downs, which we've been pretty good at.
03:42 So it's gonna be another tough challenge for us this week.
03:45 And we gotta be good on third down to win the ball game.
03:47 >> Coach, how would you describe the buy in from this team,
03:50 the head of the Orangeville,
03:51 doing the current landscape of how the ball screen operated?
03:53 >> I think it's been awesome.
03:56 Our guys have done a great job up to this point of buying in.
04:01 But that's Coach Mark's culture, that's his standard.
04:07 That we all are individuals that all have egos, but
04:11 we all are University of Georgia.
04:13 That's who we are, that's who we represent, and that's who we play for.
04:17 And I think those guys have bought in and they believe in that.
04:21 It's just not words, they believe in that.
04:23 And it's important for them to wear the G and represent Georgia the right way.
04:27 And guys like that are fun to coach.
04:30 >> From the moment we saw you at the beginning of the year until now,
04:33 where do you think the offense made the biggest strides this season?
04:35 >> I think each game is its own different game.
04:42 Each week's its own week.
04:43 I think staying consistent, I think we got more explosive as the year went on.
04:50 But I think that had to do with us getting some pieces back and
04:53 becoming healthier.
04:54 The thing I love about this offense is their resiliency.
04:58 They don't blink when things don't go well.
05:01 They continue to go out there and they play hard.
05:03 And things aren't gonna go well every time.
05:05 Sometimes you have to punt.
05:07 Sometimes you don't score a touchdown.
05:08 But we'll get another opportunity, let's go out and try to score and be explosive.
05:12 But I think being able not to flinch and
05:16 be resilient in moments when things aren't going well,
05:19 which is gonna happen in a football game, our offense has shown that to me.
05:23 >> Coach, I know this is season over, but
05:25 how would you reflect on everything that happened this season with the best
05:28 offense in the whole team and what excites you the most about next season?
05:31 >> Well, I think this season has been fun because we've seen guys grow.
05:37 We've seen guys step up in roles of their first opportunity playing this year.
05:42 And we just wanna go out and we wanna finish off the right way.
05:46 In a New Year's Six bowl game against Florida State, who's undefeated.
05:52 And when you're undefeated, that's a huge, huge accomplishment.
05:57 And they've got a very, very strong defensive football team.
06:00 So that's our challenge.
06:01 I wanna finish out the right way.
06:03 As far as next season goes, that's next season.
06:08 I think everything we're doing up to this point is to finish off the right way for
06:12 this senior class.
06:12 Having a chance to get 50 wins is the most important thing on our mind right now.
06:16 >> Where do you feel like Carson has grown in the last season?
06:20 >> I think just, well, there's a lot of areas.
06:23 I think no matter how long you've been in the system or
06:26 how many years of experience when you've got being in that system,
06:30 I think his maturity has grown throughout the year.
06:34 His confidence has grown.
06:37 I mean, you can be confident but till you go out there and do it.
06:40 On Saturdays, you still have to be able to feel that while doing.
06:45 I think his confidence in those areas has helped him grow.
06:49 He's had the talent, but I think his confidence more than anything.
