00:00 How long?
00:01 Please.
00:03 57 years.
00:06 Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're looking at memorable scenes cut from classic cinema.
00:11 There will be spoilers.
00:13 We French always pay respect.
00:15 Number 10.
00:17 More Quint.
00:18 Jaws.
00:19 There have been a number of deleted scenes from the summer blockbuster masterpiece,
00:24 Jaws, that have been uncovered over the years.
00:27 What the hell, you son of a-
00:28 Number 8.
00:30 Some were extracted from the film's television airings, while others, like this one with
00:34 Robert Shaw's Quint, made their debut on home video.
00:37 The scene in question admittedly doesn't do much for Quint's moral character, since
00:41 it showcases him harassing a young boy playing the clarinet.
00:45 However, it does showcase early on the character's presence in Amity, while also underlining
00:54 how Quint enjoys getting under the skin of just about anyone.
00:58 You miserable little son of a bitch.
01:01 Number 9.
01:03 Mr. Orange's knowledge.
01:04 Reservoir Dogs.
01:06 Is Mr. Orange a cop?
01:08 All of the crew in Quentin Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs seem to think so.
01:12 All that is, except Mr. White.
01:14 The film makes it a point to stress White's defense of a gravely wounded Orange, right
01:19 to the very end.
01:20 This is why the final revelation that Orange was, in fact, a cop all along, is so devastating
01:26 to White.
01:27 However, a deleted scene gives Mr. Orange some background information on White, namely
01:31 that he might be a cop killer.
01:33 What's the next step?
01:35 Next step is, you do what they tell you to do, man.
01:40 The scene, if restored, makes the story of Reservoir Dogs feel very different.
01:44 We're not sure if it would make the movie better or worse, but the background check
01:48 sequence certainly makes for an interesting "what if?"
01:51 All things considered, this was pretty successful.
01:53 I don't believe you just said that.
01:56 Number 8.
01:57 Pig Head.
01:58 Who framed Roger Rabbit?
02:00 Have you ever wondered why Jessica Rabbit seems to catch Eddie Valiant fresh out of
02:04 the shower in Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
02:06 You've got the wrong idea about me, Mr. Rabbit.
02:08 This is the aftermath of a scene that was storyboarded but never shot, involving the
02:12 funeral of Marvin Acme.
02:14 What was shot, and also deleted, however, was a scene where Valiant is ambushed by Judge
02:19 Doom's weasels while in Toontown for said funeral.
02:23 Went to Toontown to torture 'em.
02:25 The weasels paint a giant pig's head on top of Valiant, and he's forced to shower
02:29 it off back at his office.
02:31 The final effect is frightening too, as the animated pig face harrowingly slides down
02:36 the drain of Eddie's shower.
02:38 [Splash]
02:40 This scene made it into some versions of Roger Rabbit's trailer, as well as certain television
02:50 broadcasts.
02:51 Number 7.
02:52 Superman isn't a murderer.
02:54 Superman II.
02:56 The production of this first sequel to 1978's Superman the Movie was fraught with behind-the-scenes
03:01 drama and conflict.
03:02 Kneel before Zod!
03:05 As a result, it wasn't until the Richard Donner Cut of Superman II that this deleted
03:09 scene was restored.
03:11 One that restores the Man of Steel's good name.
03:13 You see, the original ending sees Su casually toss General Zod and his crew over a precipice,
03:18 presumably to their deaths.
03:20 [Zod and co.
03:21 Screaming]
03:28 The Donner Cut restores a scene where Zod and co. are actually arrested, brought to
03:33 justice, as opposed to becoming victims of yet another fatal Superman attack.
03:38 "Metropolis mice, right?
03:40 Don't you love that?"
03:43 "Is that what you were for?"
03:45 Zack Snyder, we're looking at you.
03:47 Number 6.
03:48 Tommy the Limo Driver.
03:50 This is Spinal Tap.
03:51 There are so many ancillary characters within This is Spinal Tap that manage to make their
03:56 comedic mark on the film.
03:58 The group's manager, Ian Faith, comes to mind.
04:00 And Tommy the Limo Driver might have joined this company too, had these deleted scenes
04:05 been left in the finished product.
04:06 One of the scenes involves Tommy attempting to regale the boys in Tap about his love of
04:11 Frank Sinatra, only to be rebuffed.
04:13 "He sees Frank.
04:14 Frank's walking down Broadway by himself."
04:20 The driver ends up telling his Sinatra tales in the front seat, since Tap rolls up the
04:24 partition, so they can fully ignore anything Tommy has to say.
04:28 "Zack, my mom will back them all away."
04:31 Another excise Tommy scene sees the limo driver delivering pizza to Tap, before entering full-on
04:37 party mode.
04:38 It's a must-see.
04:39 "Do a good show, alright?"
04:41 Number 5.
04:42 Television Ending, The Thing.
04:44 There is a wealth of edited and deleted scenes from John Carpenter's 1982 masterpiece, The
04:50 Thing.
04:51 "Anybody touches me, then we go."
04:54 This loose remake of 1951's The Thing from Another World was itself edited for television
04:59 broadcast, a version that was cobbled together with outtakes against Carpenter's approval.
05:04 This version of The Thing utilizes footage from a deleted screwdriver killing of Bennings,
05:09 [Suspenseful music]
05:16 while also including a voiceover narration that was asked for by nobody.
05:20 "McCready, a top helicopter pilot, worked for Hughes Aircraft as a test pilot, until
05:25 he got into a confrontation with top management and resigned to take this assignment."
05:29 Finally, that masterfully ambiguous ending of the original is replaced with a finale
05:34 that implies The Thing gets away, replacing Carpenter's original vision.
05:39 Number 4.
05:40 The Plantation Scene, Apocalypse Now.
05:43 Fans are often split as to whether or not they prefer the original, theatrical version
05:47 of Apocalypse Now versus the expanded redux of director Francis Ford Coppola's vision.
05:53 "You're an errand boy."
05:55 The discourse often comes down to whether or not longer is better, because this deleted
06:00 scene stops Apocalypse Now in its tracks for a brief respite.
06:04 It occurs when the crew hunting for Colonel Walter Kurtz in the jungle meets a French
06:08 family.
06:09 It's here where themes of colonialism and classism come up.
06:12 "We French always pay respect."
06:14 Although, detractors claim that it's a bit late in the running time for these themes
06:18 to be explored.
06:19 "We want to stay here because it's ours."
06:22 This opposing side claims that the plantation scene derails the momentum of Apocalypse Now.
06:27 Do you agree?
06:29 "The horror."
06:31 Number 3.
06:33 Ripley is a Mother, Aliens.
06:35 The relationship between Ellen Ripley and colony survivor Newt is given more gravitas
06:40 during a deleted scene early on in director James Cameron's 1986 action masterpiece,
06:46 Aliens.
06:47 "Hard to believe there's a little girl under all this.
06:50 And a pretty one too."
06:53 Thankfully, the easily attainable director's cut of the film reinserts the revelation that
06:58 Ripley's time in hypersleep after the original Alien was longer than she or anyone else thought.
07:04 "How long?"
07:06 "Please."
07:08 "57 years."
07:11 As a result, her daughter has aged and died, effectively leaving Ripley only with the Nostromo
07:17 Cat, Jonesy, as a companion.
07:19 "And that was at the time of her death."
07:21 This precipitates her return to the colony and makes Newt an emotional receptacle for
07:26 Ripley's motherly yearning.
07:28 Number 2.
07:29 The Unicorn, Blade Runner.
07:31 "How old am I?"
07:37 "I don't know."
07:38 This deleted scene from the original theatrical run of Blade Runner has been restored in multiple
07:43 alternate cuts of Ridley Scott's storied sci-fi classic.
07:47 "Like tears in rain."
07:54 "Time to die."
08:01 Some theatrical versions of Blade Runner may have contained an added voiceover, while others
08:06 didn't include the combined scenes where Harrison Ford's Deckard dreams about a unicorn and
08:11 later receives a gift.
08:13 It's from Deckard's fellow Blade Runner, Gath, and he seems to somehow know about the dream
08:18 since he leaves an origami unicorn for Deckard.
08:21 As a result, the unicorn scene adds more fuel to the fire of fan theories that Deckard is
08:26 indeed a replicant, just like the ones he hunts for a living.
08:31 "Too bad she won't live.
08:33 But then again, who does?"

08:51 Number 1.
08:53 Yoda Forbids Obi-Wan.
08:55 Star Wars Episode VI, Return of the Jedi.
08:58 The Star Wars films feature a wealth of deleted scenes that many fans wish would have been
09:02 included in the final product.
09:04 One of them was the scene in Return of the Jedi where Luke crafts a new lightsaber.
09:09 Elsewhere, there's an even more important scene that retroactively fixes a sore sticking point
09:14 amongst many Star Wars fans.
09:17 "There is another...
09:23 ...sky...
09:26 ...walk."
09:31 Specifically, why does Obi-Wan Kenobi keep Luke's true parentage from his young Padawan?
09:37 This deleted scene reveals that it's in fact Yoda that forbids Obi-Wan from revealing this
09:43 information to Luke.
09:44 "Obi-Wan would have told you long ago had I let him."
09:48 It's a quick line, but Yoda's admission softens Obi-Wan's behavior towards Luke as his teacher,
09:54 while also underlining the importance of young Skywalker's training as a Jedi.
09:59 "I already know you. That's what you need."
10:02 Which deleted movie scene do you think changes everything?
10:06 Let us know in the comments.
10:08 "Are you gonna bark all day, little doggie?
10:12 Or are you gonna bite?"
