00:02 - Hi, my name's Nick Drane.
00:06 I'm a PGA professional and master fitting specialist
00:08 here at the Titleist Performance Center at Woburn.
00:11 In this video, we're gonna talk about
00:12 how to start pushing your irons.
00:14 The fundamentals within your setup
00:16 are gonna help you deliver the club in the correct fashion
00:19 to get the golf ball in your right direction.
00:21 A lot of the time I see incorrect setup position
00:24 primarily around ball position.
00:26 So if I demonstrate for you now,
00:28 if I have the ball positioned too far back in my stance,
00:32 that's gonna cause the club to swing out to the right
00:35 with the club face open primarily,
00:37 and it's gonna allow the ball to stay right at my target.
00:40 Ideally, what we'd like to see
00:42 is the ball just left of middle.
00:44 So as I come into the golf ball,
00:47 my club is now swinging more towards my target
00:50 with the club face square to my path,
00:52 and then I can start it at my target
00:54 with a much straighter golf shot.
00:56 One key part of being able to hit your irons
00:58 in the right direction is being properly fit for them.
01:01 So you're a PGA professional,
01:02 so they can fit you accordingly for your right lie angle,
01:05 which is gonna help you with a tighter shot dispersion.
01:07 I'm now gonna demonstrate to you
01:09 what happens if the ball position
01:10 is too far back in my stance.
01:12 You'll see my target, the flag, out in front.
01:15 If I now show you into my setup,
01:16 my shoulders are now aligned
01:22 a long way to the right of my target.
01:24 If I put the ball position just left of middle
01:27 where I ideally want it,
01:28 my shoulders are now properly aligned.
01:33 I can go ahead and hit the shot at my target.
01:35 As you can see, that ball flew towards my target.
01:46 The golf swing hasn't changed,
01:47 but I've made sure that my fundamentals are correct.
01:50 A really simple exercise you can do
01:51 to keep an eye on your fundamentals
01:53 and your ball position is with a couple of alignment sticks
01:56 or a couple of golf clubs will do as well,
01:58 is pop one down parallel to your feet,
02:00 and then I've got my other alignment stick
02:02 relative to my ball position.
02:03 So as you'll see here,
02:04 it is just left of middle,
02:08 and it's gonna ensure that I have the correct ball position
02:11 every single time.
