00:05 Hi, my name is Logan.
00:06 And I'm Celine.
00:07 We're the co-writers and directors
00:09 of our short film, Lockdown, an official selection
00:11 of the 2019 Sundance Film Festival.
00:15 We saw this photo by Alex Soth in the New York Times
00:18 called On Lockdown.
00:20 And we were really taken by it.
00:22 We didn't want to tell a story explicitly about gun violence.
00:26 We saw the context of a lockdown drill
00:29 as a way to explore a very, very different narrative.
00:33 Logan and I have never been big on scripts.
00:35 We really like the idea of our actors finding the scene
00:39 rather than memorizing word for word.
00:41 And so we use that same tactic here.
00:43 When we cast over 100 different extras, a lot of the students
00:47 actually go to that school.
00:48 And then some adult actors to play the teachers and staff
00:51 because we really wanted to fill out the whole school
00:54 and make it feel like a living and breathing environment.
00:58 This is Logan and my sixth film as a co-writer/director team.
01:02 I'm actually from Pittsburgh.
01:03 So the out-of-town crew stayed at my parents' house.
01:06 And my aunt and uncle live really close to the school.
01:09 So we parked the van there overnight.
01:11 Shot it over only two days.
01:13 It was a real, real rush.
01:15 A lot of credit to our EPs and Compulsory
01:18 for really trusting us.
01:20 Loi, Meyer, DP, and Cara Durette.
01:23 Without them, we really couldn't have pulled it off.
01:25 This short is about taking control and taking risks,
01:29 but also what it is to be a middle schooler in 2018
01:34 and to be falling in love with your best friend.
01:37 We feel so lucky that people are continuing
01:41 to see something in our work.
