Pila Fossata the Roman Stake Pt3

  • last year
In this video we cut two notches in the stake. The Pila Fossata has two notches, one at the base and one on the opposite face at the top. The base notch was likely used for hammering the stake into the ground and is made using a saw. The top notch use is unknown, for me it is possibly to give it an aggressive barbed appearance and is made using a chisel, knife or axe. The wood used is ash which was cut last week and kept outside in the rain.
